Teachable Point of View: Life Lessons

From a Father to a Daughter (leaving for college)

As you embark on the next phase of this journey called life, I'd like to pass on some wisdom I’ve gathered over the years —insights I wish I had known when I stepped into college life, and some that were passed onto me by my father. It’s all yours now. Embrace the adventure with an open heart and mind!

  1. Learning is life-long, and a super-power at that! Be curious and continue learning. Every experience is a learning event.
  2. There is no substitute for hard work There are no short cuts in life. Rigour and discipline can overcome any challenges and convert them into opportunities.
  3. Health is wealth. A healthy body is the most valuable asset in life and trumps everything else. Be active, exercise and invest in your well-being!
  4. Asking for help is a strength and not weakness. It's ok ?and many a times it’s better to say "I don’t ?know" - as long as you then put in the effort to learn.
  5. Your family will always be your biggest cheerleaders and supporters. You can approach us for ANYTHING under this universe, without any doubts or apprehensions. We will ALWAYS be there for you!
  6. Setbacks and failures are the biggest teachers in our lives, as long as we make them only once and learn from them. Use them as stepping stones to SUCCESS.
  7. Never forget your roots and your values. Integrity is about doing the right thing when no one is watching. Always take the higher ground.
  8. Be Curious, try out different things. Life is about learning and experiences. However, NEVER DO DRUGS! Lives are destroyed with drugs. Never ever feel compelled to do anything you don’t want to.
  9. Choose your company wisely. Surround yourself with friends who uplift you, inspire you, and share your values. And always strive to make us proud, not just through achievements, but by being a kind, compassionate, and resilient person.
  10. Life is about balance. Avoid extremes. Take a long term view, and balance the short term with the long term view.

Finally, my favourite quote from Kung Fu Panda:

"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift and hence called PRESENT. Learn from the past, plan for the future, but LIVE In The Moment. Focus on what you can control and influence. Everything else is irrelevant.?

With all my love and unwavering belief in you!

Your Father

Interesting view, I can't forget this quote you use to always tell us always "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift and hence called PRESENT."
