Tea Time with President Desiree Díaz – October 2023
International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning
Advancing the Science of Healthcare Simulation
Every month, I will have a reflection or forecast from the past, present, and future.

INACSL Insider Info:
Past: We were very recently at the 2023 National League for Nursing Education Summit. Many of the board members were there for their academic positions, but we carved out some time to catch up. It was very nice to cheer on fellow members of the SIM community as they were inducted into the Academy of Nursing Education as a fellow. A big shout out to Kellie Bryant, DNP, WHNP, CHSE, FSSH, FADLN, FAAN for delivering the Debra Spunt Lecture.

?Present: Currently, there are many things to report on so here are a few: the Advanced Practice Special Interest Group (SIG) is actively working as a group to deliver content at the annual conference. They are creating a space where faculty of advanced practice can collaborate on projects at the graduate level.?Plus, there is interest for those in the Caribbean Regions to create a Regional Interest Group (RIG). Please If you are interested, please reach out to me directly and I will put you in contact with the corresponding members as they begin to organize.
The governance committee and its board liaison Fara Bowler, DNP, APRN, CHSE have been hard at work diligently reviewing policies and ensuring the organization is following standing operating procedures. I like to think of this group as a form of checks and balances within our organization. The engagement in the forums is a great place to introduce and meet people. Were you a first-time attendee at INACSL23? I know many first-timers were at the sessions — stay connected! Don’t let the time change and season change drain your momentum — we are here for you!
Future: As we look at the beginning of Fall and the days being shorter with light, remember to take time to refresh and refocus for yourself as well. As your INACSL President-Elect Ashley Franklin told me over tea, we all only have 24 hours in a day. It made me pause to think about how we as SIM educators can prioritize our responsibilities and commitments. It reminded me that I do have some time to submit my INACSL24 abstract, and I set a date to complete that. With that?being said, I remind you that submissions are open until Tuesday, October 31, but you should start formulating your ideas now. I look forward to seeing the great things the simulation community is doing. The Conference Planning Committee has been hard at work. Thank you to all the volunteers who prioritize INACSL service and give of their time. Nominations are opening soon for next year — check your bandwidth, ask questions, step out of your condor zone, and run for the board. I would love to work with you!
