Tea grades
Tea grading is essentially a classification of the product in terms of particle size, shape, and cleanliness
Objective
separation of made tea, particles into various shapes and sizes in conformity with trade requirements. Size reduction of oversized particles to form more acceptable grades. Cleaning of grades to present them most attractively and acceptably. Preparation for marketing and transport of the produce.
Very special grades /tips only?
? Silver tips?
? Golden tips
Tippy grades?
? FBOPF sp -similar in size to BOP 1 with a fair presence of tips?
? FBOPA 1sp
Flowery grades?
? FBOPF -similar in size to BOP.BOPF but must contain tips.
? FBOPF 1- larger than BOP, smaller than an FBOP with a show of tips.?
? FBOP - Smaller/shorter than BOP1with present of tips, but larger than FBOPF1.
? FBOP 1- long, twisted, wiry leaf, fairly tippy. Longer than BOP 1
Pokoe grades?
? Pokoe 1- same as pekoe but smaller in size than pekoe.?
? Pokoe - shorty, curly or semi-curly leaf of large size.
Leafy grades?
? BOP1- wiry and twisted, but shorter than as OP1.?
? OP1- tong, wiry, well or partly twisted.
? OP- less wiry than OP1, but much more twisted than OPA.?
? OPA- long bold leaf with a fair twist.
Flowery grades
? F O P- flowery orange pekoe
? F B O P – flowery broken orange pekoe
? F B O P F- flowery broken orange pekoe fannings?
Broken grades
? B O P- Broken orange pekoe
? B O P F broken orange pekoe fannings
Leaf grades
? P-orange pekoe
? F P-flowery pekoe

? B P- broken pekoe
