Tea Bags and Tan Lines

Now that we’re fully into summer (albeit British Summer where it’s raining every other day), we decided to choose Yorkshire Tea’s latest campaign by Lucky Generals as our #FridayAd.

Yorkshire Tea invite us to “Pack Yer Bags” and take a trip to Ibiza. This campaign cleverly taps into the insight that people take their tea bags on holiday with them, as there’s nothing worse than not being able to get a proper cuppa whilst you’re away.

With a bespoke song written for the ad, now available on Spotify , it encapsulates a lot of the stereotypes of a lad’s overseas holiday – getting up stupidly early for a flight, chatting to girls, getting burnt by the pool. But it does it in a way that all links back to tea.

Our only question is whether there are many young guys going away packing tea bags? We get the insight linking to families and older travellers, but does this hold true for the early 20’s crowd? We will leave that to you to decide.

As branding nerds, we like the subtle brand cues throughout, like the mug on the bedside table, the toast and jam keyring (one of their latest tea bag flavours!), security warning signs… All great little touches that help build the brand.

Like this ad or not, it stands out. And you’ll have the song stuck in your head for ages. “Pack it, pack it, pack it…” sorry.

Love the song, it definitely is catchy! Great to see a brand creating their own music rather than updating something that already exists. Brave move that has definitely paid off.

Love an ad that breaks the category norms!! Well done Yorkshire Tea …. I’m not the target audience clearly but I do always pack my tea bags on hols!
