TDK Fully Embraces Sustainability and Renewable Energy Through Our Progressive Commitment
TDK is deeply committed to social and environmental responsibility that restores and protects the global environment for future generations.
In keeping with the 28th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 28), United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, convening from November 30 to December 12, 2023, TDK climate change initiatives are dedicated to maximizing a sustainable society through enhanced energy efficiency that utilizes renewable energy sources at our sites, where our product development and business activities emphasize environmental protection and social advantages.?
Concurrently, we are investing in our team members as we continue to cultivate and expand our culture of accountability to future generations. We emphasize the significant contribution of our actions, advanced technologies, and innovative solutions in fulfilling our commitment.

Leveraging TDK’s proprietary core technologies we've developed since our inception, our goal is to bring to life the society espoused in our sustainability vision—technology for the well-being of all people—and to be a vital contributor in this pursuit.
Through our cutting-edge technologies, design-forward solutions, and proactive business strategies, we are committed to operations and manufacturing practices that foster a sustainable society and advocate for the welfare of everyone.
UN Sustainable Development Goals – A Shared Blueprint for Peace and Prosperity
In response to the global emergency brought on by climate change as well as to address the political, economic, and environmental challenges our world is facing, the United Nations developed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a "blueprint for achieving a better and more sustainable future for all." The goals were set up in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly with the intention that they be reached by 2030.?
TDK, through our technologies and shared values, has chosen to focus on these six goals that most closely reflect our overall values and vision, supported by our business operations:
Our Commitment — 100% Renewable Energy Operation by 2050
Based on our TDK Environmental Vision 2035, we are targeting to halve the CO2 emissions intensity from a life-cycle perspective by 2035 (vs. FY2015) and 100% renewable energy with net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. In addition, TDK seeks vendors that have procedures in place to minimize Scope 2 emissions (indirect CO2 emissions) and Scope 3 emissions (up and downstream of their own businesses).
With established facilities, including manufacturing operations, research and development institutes, and related sales and administrative locations, TDK’s total global footprint exceeds 250 sites in over 30 countries and regions, all working towards our sustainability vision. This includes our commitment to working towards a viable circular economy based on renewable energy resources, recycling, remanufacturing, and reuse.
“There’s a saying that a society grows great when people plant grape vines or trees that they will never sit in the shade of—I think that is what TDK is doing. Today’s top management realizes that the activities that they’re investing in will not pay dividends now while they are here but for future generations of not only TDK but also of society. So, TDK is hoping in the future to continue to reduce our impact on climate change and on the environment by reducing our overall greenhouse gas emissions, as well as increasing our activities regarding biodiversity, implementing circular economy concepts within and across our business, and becoming a leading sustainability organization around the world.”

TDK Converts 100% of its Manufacturing Sites in Japan to Renewable Electricity Operation in July 2023
In 2023, TDK’s 25 manufacturing sites in Japan were all successfully converted to 100% renewable electricity operation. TDK’s manufacturing sites in other countries are following this same pattern through the use of photovoltaics, geothermal power, hydroelectric power, and wind power.
TDK’s Contribution to the SDGs Through Our Products?
With TDK’s Seven Seas, we have identified growth applications where TDK will provide value to society via our technologies. These seven growth applications include Beyond 5G, IoT, Robotics, AR/VR, Medical/Healthcare, Mobility ADAS/EV, and Renewable Energy.
While the connection between these applications and sustainability might not be obvious in all cases, here we would like to illustrate how, through our technology, we are providing a valuable contribution not only to growing markets but also to the SDGs and society itself.
