TCY boasts of an eclectic team that has shaped TCY’s journey so far. An anthology of some stories:
“A journey that began as a part-timer has become such an integral part of my life that I have been caught unaware. Things that I dreaded once have become second nature to me. Language training, online live sessions, and such; things I wasn’t confident about, I can hold on my own nowadays. Every day is like a new day with one new learning or the other. The growth has not been limited to me as some learning gets passed on to my daughter and then to her friends and so on. On the other hand, I feel happy that I can pass on the knowledge gained over 24 years to the future generation and in the process making the world a better place. After all, knowledge grows with sharing”.
A wonderful journey of 8 years. I just had one year experience when I started as a Web Developer with TCY. My initiation involved spending a day each with one of the members of the team, learning about what they do in their profiles. I have learned many things from them due to which I have been able to grow to the position of a Team Lead. TCY has encouraged me to think wider, to set a mission, and to make a perfect plan to execute it. It’s always been a learning experience and like we say, “ things won’t always go your way, but you need to own it”. I learn from my mistakes and move on. TCY has given me a life-changing experience.
My journey with TCY started in 2005 with a casual meeting with Kamal Wadhera which ended up in a ‘Relationship Manager’ job offer. When I met Kamal, I was on over year-long parenting leave and was quite eager to join back work. My role was to increase TCY’s brand visibility in various colleges in the region through seminars & campus activities. I had then over 5 years of experience spread across quality control in Manufacturing and Workflow design & Business Development with an ERP company that targeted mid-size manufacturing companies in Punjab.
I’ve been fortunate to experience growth in every vertical I worked in. Most of my contribution has been in Business Development & Client-servicing. It has been an enriching journey with an opportunity to interact & work with clients across geographies &to assist them in growing their business.
As an organization, we have never compromised on quality & consistently work towards improving user experience. My mission is that TCY should become the most sought-after Ed-tech platform in the country.
When I joined TCY, I had around 1.5 years of experience at Gurgaon in recruitment's. After shifting to Ludhiana, I joined TCY as Assistant Manager Support – Franchise Department in Feb 2009.
Early on into the job itself, I discovered my passion was in HR and I took a career transition. Now I am working as DGM, HR leading a small focused team of professionals.
What was just another Job a decade back has become a great career for me. Now I see things in a much different manner and with much more clarity. I learned how to deal with ambiguity and how important it is for every lady to be financially independent.
The biggest takeaway so far has been that never stop learning. Go deeper to be perfect in whatever you do.
After spending the initial few months post my engineering in production, TCY was the first Job of my career.
From Maths in Classroom to Content to Online Tutoring to Technical & everything in between, I have not only witnessed but proudly contributed to this team growing from a few hundred students to more than 1 lakh paying students, growing from a team size of 5 to the current size of 250+ & from one center to 1,200+ centers.
“How can we cater to each & every student of the country that was the vision of Kamal Wadhera.” With this dream and my inclination towards programming, he gave me the mission to launch the Online Platform ‘TCYonline.com’ for Students and Authors. Now, this platform caters to 5.5 Mn students, 1,250+ coaching centers& 1.5 lakh teachers.
We have seen many ups and downs in this journey, but the focused approach of Directors has brought us to this level so far. Under their leadership, I have developed many skills; be it Team handling, Resource Planning, and mainly thinking Big i.e scale thinking. My takeaways: If you are ambitious and have passion, you will get unlimited opportunities @ TCY.
One of my friends who was already working at TCY asked me to apply. I applied to teach another subject but the team there could discover the passion for the English Language in me and soon I was a faculty member for ELT. I wasn’t expecting so but the students loved me (I like thinking they did!). I can only say that I learned a lot as a teacher and tried my best to pass it on!
I never thought there would be so much to learn and unlearn and I feel like I’m still learning. Being at the centers, I thought I was at the best of my game, but when I arrived at head office, the experience and the knowledge of intelligentsia here really blew my mind. The greatest takeaway I think was that to groom an effective team member, it really takes a whole village.
Having taken voluntary retirement from a Public Sector Undertaking, and having burnt my hands in a short stint with a business thereafter, I joined TCY for a two-hour/day assignment just to get a feel of work there. And within a month I was in it full-time.
During the long innings in the corporate world, I thought I had forgotten my teaching roots and academics. But the freewheeling ambiance at TCY nursed my training skills back and encouraged me to go into core content writing. It felt good to be using self-developed content in actual teaching. The emphasis was always on creating original content. It has been almost 16 years since and the glue that has been sticking me to TCY is the creative freedom that is allowed here.
My exposure to technology had been next to nil when I joined, and courtesy of the learning-friendly surroundings here, the youngsters brought my tech-awareness to a tolerable level.
In 2003 when my husband got a transfer to Ludhiana, I shifted along and started looking for an opportunity in the HR domain. One day saw TCY and called on that number only to know that it was the CEO on the other side, very humble and down to earth, to speak with. Met him at his office the next day and started working from the day after.
It was here that I discovered my passion for networking and business development, particularly in the overseas market. Some of the things TCY gave me are listening skills, leadership skills, analytical thinking, and a global outlook.
I was working in a BPO as a team lead and I was looking for something new and more challenging. I received a call from a consultant and they told me about the live tutoring profile at TCY. I could easily meet all the criteria and also I could utilize my past experience and learn new things. So I went in for it.
The working/process in TCY is such that it would automatically help you to think analytically and be process-driven. I have been through many learning transitions and have received many elevations; profile-wise as well as skill-wise.
It is my first job, 18 years back fresh out of university and TCY threw me into a roller coaster ride. Soon I was organizing events, working on ads, delivering training & teaching, and a lot of things that I didn't realize that I was capable of. Such was the magic of the founding team that they always brought out the best in you. Soon I got an opportunity to lead a K-12 team and established myself as an academic researcher and then got another opportunity to lead a product team and am now managing academic research and data science.
The best thing I enjoy is the opportunities to learn created by new challenges. I enjoy helping teams and hence the organization achieves its goals by bringing in innovation in the teaching learning process.
After teaching in higher education at a college for five years, I took a plunge in test prep and joined TCY in 2003. Company owned centres at TCY are the 'research lab' for the entire classroom network of the company. Every academic, operational and promotional resource is tested here before it’s taken to the market. So it has always been an ops heavy profile which taught me multitasking every single day. TCY’s tenet of utilizing technology & processes to the fullest to get the best out of teachers and students is what continuously keeps me on my toes. The unique methodology that we developed in this research lab after scores of iterations over almost a decade has now become our defensible strategy that is helping over 1 lakh students in 1000+ centres. Both teachers and students simply love TCY methodology. Multitasking, which is in the DNA of TCY, has turned me into a different person during this journey as every day has been full of varied tasks, challenges and new learnings.
From the role of the Zonal Head at a software solutions company for about 10 years in Mumbai, I joined TCY as General Manager in 2019. I was chosen for a pivotal project of TCY and working with an Ed-tech company has been an exciting experience for me. I liked the openness, forward-thinking and progressive nature of the company which is well organized at many levels. Every day at the company brought its own set of challenges and working with a dynamic team and leadership made it easy overcoming them. I have experienced a fast and challenging journey over the last 2 years and I feel really lucky to have such an all-around involvement at all levels. The company paved its way to provide uninterrupted solutions even during the pandemic to its clients, which is commendable. So my journey has been fantastic and the opportunities I have been given are incredible.
