TCSP Legal Monthly News Mash - May 2024
A recent case from the SDT involves a newly qualified solicitor who has been struck off for false time recording (link attached).
The false time recording happened over 4 days. It seems to be a severe decision to strike the solicitor off (we would be interested to hear what you think about this?).
It makes us wonder if the technological advances coming will finally negate time recording in the future? https://lnkd.in/eQ8AyDrn

In the age where fraud is the most commonly experienced crime in the UK, and now accounts for over 40% of crime in England and Wales, we have to ask…
Conveyancers, do you tell your clients to refrain from posting details of their house move of personal details on their social media accounts?
In the article from Today's Conveyancer below, a quarter of UK adults have shared their sensitive personal information (e.g Bank details) via email when they move house. Fraudsters can and do watch social media accounts, see the excitement (understandably) people have about moving/their ideal home, and take it from there.
To help the situation, avoid posting any information about moving on social media until after completion, and never let clients use emails for sharing their bank details and other personal details.
More fines on the horizon?
In the same month that the Government announced they were not going to regulate Estate Agents, HMRC announced that 250 Estate Agencies have been collectively fined over £1.6million for breaching AML regulations.
Details below for both of those stories if you missed them.
What do you think?
Wouldn’t regulation of Estate Agents (and some training on what the conveyancing process involves) help the industry, and more importantly, the public?
