TCS ends Work From Home ???

?In a new survey of more than 1,000 C-suite and executive respondents by the TCS ( #tcs ) Global #workforce Report, 80 percent said #remotework is essential. There's just one big downside: #millennials won't return to #office if they don't get the kind of #mentorship they need through personal interactions.

TCS, along with other companies like #google and #facebook , had announced a 25/25 model in October 2018 as part of the #government strategy to ensure there was no significant disruption to the #economy due to the virus. According to this model, 25 per cent of #employees will be required to work from the office at any given point and spend only 25 per cent of their time in the office while 75 per cent can #work flexibly (work from home or at their PJs) when they want to. The deadline for implementing it was 2022. But, #tcs seems to be taking a small step back by recalling its #millennial #employees back to offices before completely switching over to flexi-spending setup. It is currently mandating that only one quarter of its employees would need to work from home at any given point and spends only a quarter of its time in the office by 2025.

The deferment of the hybrid work plan to 2025 is becoming a bone of contention between the TCS workforce, which comprises 70 per cent millennials, and the company. “TCS has essentially begun remote work and is focusing more on working from homes instead of office spaces,” said Ganapathy Subramaniam, general operating officer at TCS.

We believe that the first and most important step towards the transformation of our young professional education, is to have a remote working culture in campus. Our view is that we can’t have new joinee's not seeing a TCS office or interacting with role models as mentors. Remote working as the only goal will lead to a very transactional experience which is neither in the interest of the organization or these young professionals, as they will miss out on gaining holistic professional growth.

TCS CEO N Chandrasekaran said that the company’s culture was always a competitive one and this was now going to be further enhanced with the introduction of values, people strategies and #mentoring at the #workplace. The company, which has been ranked #india 's best Corporate Citizen for three consecutive years by the '#indiatoday ' Brand Trust Report, had recruited nearly 100,000 people in 2021. "With our newly developed performance management processes and programs we are ensuring that the right aptitudes are embedded in each of these recruits," he added.

Millennials are coming to work with “great expectations” and aren’t happy just sitting around. While that could be bad news for companies struggling to find talent, it could also mean disruption for #hr departments. TCS #leadership has to communicate more with the millennials on the subject. If the attrition in the IT sector is anything to go by, one can clearly see a very demanding young talent rejecting bureaucracy. Companies have to make efforts to understand the younger generation,” a senior executive close to TCS said.

TCS CEO said that TCS had also challenged the industry trend of moonlighting as working from home became the norm during the pandemic. He underscored that being unguided or unsupervised is not a good way of working and learning for youngsters, who will have the benefit of seeing how peers and experienced professionals work and approach problem solving. Such an environment is valuable for individuals as well as the organization to groom people.
