The TCM Newsletter: Issue #36

They say happiness starts with H.

...but for me, it starts with U.???

It's International Week of Happiness at Work.

Did you know the happiest workers live in Finland, Iceland and Norway?

How about that Google is the happiest company to work for?

Let's look at the common denominators here: flexible working, fair pay, wellness budgets, and generous holidays are to name but a few.

How many of these are in place in your workplace? Could your workers be happier? Ask them this week and see what happens.

This time, Dominic's our Consultant of the Week. No stranger to design and delivery, Dominic's been leading on some huge projects for important clients with us. You could say that he's changing the world.

Into video games? Choose your level and up your investigation skills with our training courses.

Less into games, more into videos? We've explained mediation in 3 minutes with a fun new animation.

Then we've got one with TCM Consultant Mashhuda Kazi in a couple of weeks, discussing leadership and workplace culture.?

Following on the video theme, we've got two webinars coming up: one on Leadership and Culture with Mashhuda Kazi, and the second on Neutral Evaluations with Harriette Wolff and Thoralf Kretzschmar.?

The IoOD also has a?talk show?for you, featuring Beth Miller talking all things teachers tomorrow.?

Thursdays are for tuning in. ??

If there is anything you would like to see in your weekly newsletter, please do let me know. We welcome any feedback.

East Midlands Strategic Migration Partnership contacted TCM for help. They’d been working with Local Authorities across the region to coordinate delivery of the Homes for Ukraine visa scheme, which means that hosts across the UK were housing Ukrainian refugees that had fled their own country, searching for sanctuary and safety.

This is a big change – geographically, culturally and emotionally – for anyone to manage, let alone a family forced to leave their home. Several of East Midlands’ partner organisations highlighted a need for mediation training to assist in managing potential breakdowns of sponsor/guest relationships in order to prevent Ukrainian families who would otherwise be left with no option but to present as homeless.

That’s where Dominic Human comes in. After attending a meeting with the organisations, Dominic designed and delivered a unique programme, tailored to the situation and needs of the parties, to teach the skills of mediation and facilitated conversation.

Long story short, it worked. The project was impactful, highlighting our commitment to making the world a more compassionate, collaborative and courageous place. Thank you, Dominic.

If a picture’s worth a thousand words, then a video must be worth, what, ten thousand? At least.

Lucky for you, our new mediation explainer video is free.

We’ve squeezed the principles, process and?power?of mediation into a 3-minute video for you. Help spread the word and send to your colleagues, friends and foes (you’d definitely need mediation there).

How Leaders Influence Culture ??

A wise person once said…

“For better and worse, culture and leadership are inextricably linked. Founders and influential leaders often set new cultures in motion and imprint values and assumptions that persist for decades.”

- Groysberg et al., 2018

Do you agree? Let’s explore.

In our upcoming webinar, leadership expert Mashhuda Kazi will be looking at the relationship between leadership and culture, accompanied by myself, Leadership Coordinator Amy and hopefully all of you!

If you’ve got a curiosity, question or concern, Mashhuda will be on hand to answer any leadership-and-culture-related queries.

This Culture Clinic is the chance to gain insight, get inspired, and garner advice from the experts. Be there, question at the ready, next Wednesday from 12.30pm.

Clear Away Conflict ??

?When an organisation becomes aware of conflicts, or unresolved issues, it isn’t always clear where to begin.

The origins may be uncertain or perhaps complex or multiple allegations have been made. In these circumstances, it’s best to go down the less formal route to resolution.

First, you should diagnose the problem; second, work out a solution; and third, implement that. This is called a neutral evaluation.

Want to know more? On?Wednesday 12th?October from 12.30pm to 1.30pm, Director of Investigations Harriette and Investigator Thoralf, will walk you through this fact-finding process to better understand culture.

Book yourself in below.
