TCF 08.26.24 | Mystical Ideas Can Change Your Life
Welcome to this week's newsletter, where ancient wisdom meets cutting-edge innovation in our ongoing exploration of consciousness and human potential. From thought-provoking articles to exciting announcements about upcoming events, we invite you to join us on a journey of discovery, transformation, and expanded awareness.
In "Mystical Ideas Can Change Your Life," Dr.Chopra explores often-overlooked mystical concepts from Eastern wisdom traditions. He presents key ideas such as pure consciousness creating the universe, the interconnectedness of all things, and humans as co-creators of reality. While these concepts contradict current scientific thinking, Dr.Chopra argues they offer valuable insights into the nature of reality. He suggests that as human consciousness evolves, these "mystical" ideas may transform and reemerge, potentially leading us to a more complete understanding of both the objective and subjective worlds, and guiding us to the next stage of human evolution.
Secondly, I'm thrilled to announce the exceptional lineup of thought leaders who will be sharing the stage at the upcoming Sages & Scientists Symposium . We will also step into the mind of Generation Z, where innovation meets audacity and change is the only constant. Join us as we unveil the extraordinary voices of Kensington Tallman, Kayli Joy Cooper, and Ziad Ahmed - young titans reshaping our world and proving that the leaders of tomorrow are already here today. We invite you to join us in this journey of discovery and transformation.
With peace and gratitude,

Mystical Ideas Can Change Your Life
By Deepak Chopra, MD, FACP, FRCP
There’s a shadow side to the age we live in. It consists of the ideas that get rejected as unacceptable. Today the shadow is occupied by mysticism. The reason we reject mystical ideas is that they contradict science, technology, rationality, and the five senses. You cannot see or measure where mystical forces come from–they are more hidden than dark matter and energy. It came as a shock when cosmologists discovered that dark matter and energy are not only real, despite being invisible, but they far outweigh the visible universe.
The same is true of mystical forces, or if you prefer, you can call them metaphysical forces. The East has a profound tradition in this area, whereas the West got sidetracked by religion. When God enters the picture, metaphysics gets entangled with faith, dogma, and every kind of warring religious faction. The simple fact that God is unknowable implies that mysticism is unknowable, too.
Eastern tradition is hard to access for modern secular people, and the situation isn’t helped by arcane terminology like karma and dharma. Yet the main mystical ideas embedded in Eastern wisdom traditions aren’t matters of faith. They derive from intimate knowledge of the birthright everyone shares: self-awareness. I often think of the ancient Indian sages as Einsteins of consciousness, because their discoveries are just as momentous as the theory of relativity.
Is Digital Evolution The New Frontier of Life?
Sages & Scientists Symposium
Featured Panel: GenZ - The Leaders of Today Not Tomorrow
Step into the mind of Generation Z, where innovation meets audacity and change is the only constant. Join us as at the Sages & Scientists Symposium as we unveil the extraordinary voices of Kensington Tallman , Kayli Joy Cooper , and Ziad Ahmed - young titans reshaping our world and proving that the leaders of tomorrow are already here today.
Generation Z, born into a rapidly evolving digital world, has experienced unprecedented technological advancements and global changes. This panel brings together three exceptional Gen Z voices: Kensington Tallman, Kayli Joy Cooper, and Ziad Ahmed. Tallman, at 16, starred in the record-breaking "Inside Out 2," which resonated deeply with audiences by portraying the emotional complexities of adolescence. Cooper, now 20, founded the nonprofit Girl Well at 16, raising over $1M to empower homeless teenagers in America. Ahmed (23), is a Forbes 30 under 30 listee who founded the nonprofit Redefy and co-founded “JUV” purpose-driven consultancy empowering businesses with Gen Z insights, which was acquired by UTA.
These young leaders exemplify the Gen Z spirit of activism, creativity, and resilience. Despite facing significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and mental health crises, they have leveraged technology and their innate understanding of the digital landscape to create positive change. Their work spans mental health advocacy, community empowerment, and bridging generational gaps. This panel, moderated by Reisha Savadatti, aims to explore how Gen Z's unique perspectives and skills can be harnessed to address pressing global issues, foster intergenerational understanding, and shape a more inclusive future. By giving voice to these young change-makers, the symposium seeks to challenge preconceptions about Gen Z and highlight their potential as leaders in today's complex world.

Robots That Know How to Listen
Can They Enhance Human Well-Being?
By Aurora Carlson
The simple experience of being truly listened to has become increasingly rare in our digital world of growing loneliness. As we’ve explored in a previous article, active listening–the practice of giving full attention, understanding, and non-judgmental response to a speaker–can have profound benefits for human communication and well-being. But what if we could harness technology to provide consistent, non-judgmental listening experiences, and in the process, remind ourselves of their value? Enter the world of social robots.
Active Listening and Its Benefits
Before delving into the potential of social robots, let’s briefly recap what active listening means. Active listening goes beyond merely hearing words; it involves engaging fully with the speaker, both verbally and non-verbally. This includes providing encouraging responses, demonstrating understanding through paraphrasing, and asking relevant questions[1].
One important aspect of active listening is backchannel behavior – the subtle verbal or non-verbal cues we give to show we’re engaged, such as nodding, making eye contact, smiling briefly, making affirmative sounds like “mm-hmm,” or offering brief verbal acknowledgments. These behaviors contribute greatly to making the speaker feel heard and understood[2].
FORMS OF BIOELECTRICITY
By William C Bushell, PhD
As already indicated in the last several installments, the model of adepts developed by the present author, also working with a team of contributing specialists, includes practices which have the capacity to significantly, potentially even dramatically, enhance perceptual, cognitive, and other functions of the brain, mind, and consciousness (and see also Bushell 2009, 2016; Bushell and Stern 2022; Bushell, Baker, et al, in progress; Baker, Bushell, et al, in progress). We have begun to show how some of these practices utilize innate or endogenous forms of bioelectricity*, and in this installment we will focus on one?particular?potential mechanism, and the role of bioelectricity, and also of another form of vibrational energy, that of sound or sonic energy.
This new part of the model is based on the recent work of the present author in collaboration with the yoga teacher, scholar, and scientist, Eddie Stern, MA. It provides an integrative scientific foundation for considering certain yogic practices focused on the head, and on a range of cranial and subcranial structures and the use of a range of forms of energy, including sound, as well as bioelectricity – although the latter will be considered in more depth and detail in the future (and see also Baker, Bushell, et al; Bushell, Baker, Stern, et al). <<Link to full article>>
