TCF 06.01.24 | What about Mindfulness?
In this week's edition of our newsletter, we delve into themes that resonate deeply with our commitment to enhancing well-being and understanding across communities. Each piece selected offers profound insights into the challenges and solutions that shape our experiences and interactions in today's world.
Dr. Deepak Chopra in his article, “What about Mindfulness?” opens a dialogue on the subtle distinctions and shared pathways of meditation and mindfulness, shedding light on the foundational benefits that mindfulness brings to spiritual practice beyond its historical religious associations.
From the scenic, culture-rich landscapes of Mallorca, I share my views on “Responsible Tourism — From Mallorca to Kodagu: How AI Can Help”. This narrative not only captures the local sentiments and challenges posed by mass tourism but also explores innovative solutions through AI that could redefine sustainable travel.
This week features two of our guest authors in “Chopra Post”. Kristin Meekhof, in “The Healing Power of a Narrative”, invites us into the transformative world of storytelling where personal tragedies are shared not for sorrow, but for solidarity and healing, demonstrating the power of collective empathy. “Chronobiology & Social Jet Lag”,by Suhas Kshirsagar emphasizes the significance of maintaining consistent daily routines, anchored in both Ayurvedic wisdom and modern science, to safeguard our health against the disruptions of modern lifestyles.
Each article is a thread in the broader tapestry of our mission to nurture mind, body, and spirit in harmony with our environments. We hope you find these perspectives as enriching and thought-provoking as we do.

What about Mindfulness?
By Deepak Chopra, MD, FACP, FRCP
In spiritual practice, the two “M” words, meditation and mindfulness, tend to blend, and although meditation is far more commonly practiced, mindfulness is important for Buddhists in particular. Sometimes you run across the mixed phrase “mindfulness meditation,” but it is worthwhile to explore the specific advantages of mindfulness on its own, which turns out to be a tricky subject.
The principal confusion centers on how to define mindfulness. Its ancient origins in India are Vedic, preceding any religious use in Hinduism or Buddhism. After centuries of usage, mindfulness has come to mean many things depending on who you talk to.

Responsible Tourism — From Mallorca to Kodagu How AI Can Help
By Poonacha Machaiah
Amid Mallorca's vibrant streets and sun-soaked vistas, a pressing dialogue unfolds. During my recent visit, I engaged with residents and businesses, delving into their protests against the overwhelming wave of mass tourism. The escalating tensions reflect a profound dilemma: balancing the economic lifeline tourism provides, which constitutes 45% of Mallorca’s GDP, against the mounting adversities it brings to the local community — housing shortages, soaring living costs, and the fading of cherished cultural traditions. The need for sustainable solutions has never been more urgent.
However, this is not an isolated issue for Mallorca. Similar Protests have also taken place in other places around the globe. In Venice, Italy, protests have erupted over the negative impacts of mass tourism. Residents complain about overcrowding, environmental degradation, and the displacement of locals due to rising property prices driven by short-term rentals.

When I first started my book project (which eventually became “A Widow’s Guide to Healing”, publisher- Sourcebooks) I was uncertain how things would unfold. This I knew for certain—my intent was to interview as many women as possible about their loss of a partner or spouse, and share their stories in a book so that readers would know they were not alone. I didn’t care how about the cause of death or about any other status (i.e, age, educational background, religious preference) related things. What I cared about were women’s narratives.
Chronobiology & Social Jet Lag
By Suhas Kshirsagar BAMS MD (Ayurveda)
The latest science of Chronobiology validates the ancient Ayurvedic principles of ideal daily, nightly and seasonal routines. It is even more important to be consistent with your routine for all the seven days of the week. If your weekend routine is way different than the rest of the week, you might be creating circadian disruption which can lead to many chronic diseases.
If you’ve ever experienced jet lag, you know that it brings a host of complications, including digestive trouble, mental fogginess, and even mood swings. Recent studies suggest that travelers who frequently cross time zones also have trouble with weight gain and metabolic issues. What you might not know is that you may be suffering from jet lag even when you don’t travel.

8 个月I'd like this to be an evolutionary journey, where the human species finally evolves into true human BEINGS. This should be the foundation of any New World Order. Only in this way, without the obstacle of immeasurable ambition, can we see each other as equals, with inherent value as fundamental and interconnected beings. Without Love, there is no true evolution, no World Order is fair, and society will always remain sick.
