October and the end of September were filled with a lot of travel, so many beautiful opportunities, and delightful connectivity. Let's recap...
This season of opportunities started in Houston with getting a chance to speak on a health equity panel moderated by Erika J. with Charis Ngozi Caulker, M.D. and Dr. Kelli Burroughs for Black Women in Science and Engineering (BWISE) , and a time was had! The whole event was both engaging and inspiring from Tia Lyles-Williams, D.Sc. discussing Biotech diversity, to Geraldine SCHOTT, PhD and her advice to black women looking for investment, to Lauren Adegoke, MS and Tolu Thorpe 's phenomenal event coordination, to catching up with Jason Sakamoto and the work he's spearheading to reduce health disparities.
I actually went immediately from there to New York for an opportunity that I could've only dreamed of, but that one needs its own newsletter. I'll definitely be sharing about that trip tomorrow.
Finally, I got a week to spend back at home before heading out to the DMV. I had the privilege of being the keynote speaker for Renaye James Healthcare Advisors, LLC. I've met a lot of the team virtually, but the virtual environment can't fully emphasize the vivacious positive energy of the group and the excellent leadership of Jenene R. Washington, MD, MBA, PMP, PCMH-CCE . I was literally wowed. During my talk, I provided a mini-training on how to add a DEI lens to their consulting work, and I couldn't have asked for a more engaged audience. A special shoutout to Gordon T. for serving as the CVO (Chief Vibes Officer) of my talk!
While I was in the DMV, I also got a chance to attend the opening of Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University in DC
And catch up with some of my favorite people and food spots I've been missing since moving a few years ago.
I always tell people that one of my favorite hobbies is talking to strangers. The funny thing about talking to strangers is that once you start talking, we're no longer strangers. Speaking to a room full of strangers about the topics I'm most passionate about is one of my favorite parts of the job. We may enter as strangers, but we always leave as something else. Stay tuned for tomorrow's newsletter where I catch you all up on my wild yet awe-inspiring trip to New York...
