Tc-99m Generator Advisory
Tuesday Sep 4, 2018 12:00hrs
The supply of Tc99m for the remainder of this week will continue be severely compromised. We have had a discussion this morning with ANSTO and GMS as to how to maximise the Tc99m availability and maintain on-call services over the coming weekend.
There are simply not enough generators available to supply all sites. Some sites expecting a generator later this week may not get that generator until early next week. This situation will exist until at least next Tuesday. All sites are encouraged to use GMS unit dose supply where possible. The number of unit doses and the maximum amount of radioactivity per unit dose per site will be capped.
ANSTO has started to produce generators again and is hoping to ramp up over the next 2 weeks of the production cycle.
At this stage, the worst case scenario is that next week is looking to be similar to this week, however, some relief may come from domestic generator production.
Sites will be contacted by ANSTO if there are any changes to the expected supply of generators to individual practices.
