TBI Survivor Angelina Musik Launches Phoenix Wellness by Choice To Promote Authentic Experts While Attempting to Disrupt Imposters

It's been six years since Angelina Musik started designing Wellness by Choice to educate consumers with the help of local experts while protecting them from imposters. Something she started over a decade ago and paused after a traumatic brain injury in a 2004 car wreck.

A month ago Musik posed a few questions to experts in the greater Phoenix area asking, "How would you feel if you were more widely known as a trusted expert, interviewed in front of a live audience, syndicated online and recognized in the Phoenix Magazine?"

The response was overwhelming.

What started as daily almost hour long conversations on her personal phone with experts led to creating a white paper about her project evidencing a bit of her own experience of this.

Over a decade ago, Musik appeared as a guest on numerous TV and radio shows in San Antonio, Texas. To amplify her own impact to reach and teach she created her own shows and events converging them with the use of web technology strategies before social media.

Flashback to 1999, Musik was once a mom with two kids fleeing a domestic violence marriage from Texas to WA state. After a several requests, WA state's welfare WorkFirst program agreed to fund Musik to teach herself web technology at a company founded by her now current husband, Daniel Comp, which was just a year old.

She welcomed stepping into the role as one of the first female CEOs and co-founders of a privately owned web tech company, and now one of the longest reigning within the same.

Upon returning back to San Antonio, she merged her background in the arts, media, business and web technology to launched the MOMtrepreneurs TV Show on the local community TV channel and broadcast footage she filmed at her private events for entrepreneurs.

What she was doing attracted requests for her to be on local morning shows where she'd sometimes bring a fellow MOMtrepreneur or entrepreneur to share the stage or opportunity.

Soon, she was providing the morning shows with quality experts which included the likes of U.S. Memory Champion Ron White, youth motivational speaker Aric Bostick and Apollo 10 Astronaut Commander Charlie Duke who shares, "I've learned to trust my life and business to great tools and competent people. Angelina is one of them."

Ron White remembers. "Angelina was vital in the launch of my business by giving me exposure through the web, various TV shows and bringing me my first bookings on a local, statewide and national level."

Sixteen years later, youth and corporate motivational speaker Aric Bostick says,"Angelina's support and belief helped me get to where I am today. She helped me launch my career and I will be forever grateful!"

June 2004 Deborah Schueneman, the SBDCNet Director of the U.S. Small Business Administration in San Antonio, Texas, shares. "Angelina is the first woman awarded twice by the U.S. SBA on both the local level and Southwest U.S. District level because of her perseverance and dedication to make a difference."

Musik used the same strategy on others she had used on herself teaching and encouraging entrepreneurs to become the best at their craft and known through as many intersections as possible as a trusted expert. She filmed entrepreneurs at her events and then broadcast their footage on TV, aired it on radio, promoted them in print and of course to be found online.

A couple weeks later she was asked to consider participating in the Apprentice 3, Book Smarts vs. Street Smarts, and remembers, "I was going through a Taco Cabana drive-thru with my son Chris. I got a call from Shannon with Mark Burnett Productions asking if I would be interested in participating. I thought it was a prank. It wasn't."

When Musik asked why she was considered it was her videos, pictures and websites which kept coming up online when the staff was searching for 'types' they wanted on the show.

Unfortunately, being on the show was not realized as a five days before filming Musik sustained a traumatic brain injury, hit from behind by two trucks at fifty miles an hour.

"I knew the day after something was really wrong. I had yet to understood degree of trauma I had suffered and tried to shake it off," she shares. "Between the MOMtrepreneurs magazine launch, my new fall TV show on PAXTV and the new Apprentice opportunity. I didn't want this distraction. I'm sure I was in denial and just pressed forward like normal."

However, five days after she was scheduled to be filmed at the Omni Hotel in San Antonio. and remembers telling her husband Daniel afterwards that she wasn't firing on all cylinders. The next day she notified Mark Burnett Productions of dropping out due to the car wreck.

Two months later, still limping with a head injury, she launched the Angelina Show, an education based motivational entrepreneurial TV show. It was a quarter of the cost of one paying to be on the local morning show and commercial free, airing Mondays 9am.

She'd air her episode on PAXTV, syndicate it throughout her websites and remembers how videos use to launch in emails which were forwarded almost doubling her audience weekly.

"For me the greatest compliment is when one of the MOMtrepreneurs or guest experts told me they started getting recognized publicly, like at the H.E.B grocery store," she says.

Two months after the car wreck Musik learned she was leaking cerebral spinal fluid from her nasal passages and doctors were recommending an induced coma. She retired her show with the hope and confidence that one day there would be a sequel to what she started back then.

The short lived Angelina Show retired on a 4.1 rating in 2004. It beat the ratings of Martha Stewart, Tyra Banks and Jane Pauley. A few years later Musik understood the context her rating after hearing one summer that Jimmy Kimmel's show was doing well at a 4.1 too!

It's been six years since birthing Wellness by Choice as the next iteration of the Angelina Show. Except for PTSD residuals she's learn to live and work around, Musik is preparing for her 2019 launch. This time her bag of tools includes owning one of the largest, private online syndication networks she and her husband designed and built to feature experts even greater.

Her mission? Educate and connect consumers to authentic experts she's personally spoken with and met as she travels across the U.S. while attempting to make a dent in the growing imposter epidemic which sometimes hurts and confuses consumers on whom they can trust.

"An example of a predator imposter is someone who watches YouTube to become a surgeon and then hires a contractor to set-up a clinic and a marketing company to grow their brand. It can also be a fake house contractor, personal trainer, etc... that's why credentials are vital. It's happening at such a rate I believe state and trade associations are at loss on what to do."

In 2012, she launched Beautiful Intelligence and Stop the Botch as a project to help connect patients to a spectrum of trusted practitioners. The response was so significant she had to shut it down unable to meet the demand of patient help requests.

"A third of the requests were from patients who had been hurt by a careless or imposter physician or practitioner. I interviewed these patients and through this process I recognized we have a social issue going on. Women were losing their jobs, marriages, and kids were losing their moms who had fallen into depression or were now on welfare," she shares.

It's October, her birthday month and in a week she'll be in Phoenix to train and interview experts she's invited who responded to her question, "How would you feel if you were more widely known as a trusted expert, interviewed in front of a live audience, syndicated online and recognized in the Phoenix Magazine?"

Already nicknamed 'The Profit for Health and Wellness' by a few, Musik's smarter and healthier living experts pay a little to benefit a lot and from her investment in them.

"My mission is to amplify the visibility and credibility of authentic experts. Those who help us live smarter, healthier and happier. In the process, attempt to offset the impact of those who are predators, fake or careless. Who may hurt or confuse consumers on whom to trust."
