TBG Employee Spotlight: Riley Olson, CFO

Being a Chief Financial Officer typically means handling a lot of accounting, finance and budgeting, but according to Riley Olson, CPA , there's plenty of room for creativity in his CFO role at TBG. Learn why and more about Riley below.

Q. What brought you to The Bulow Group?

A. Mike and Tommy have always been guys I’ve looked up to in both the professional setting and personally. It was easy for me to make the transition [from the corporate world] knowing I can work and learn alongside them. Also, I appreciate having the ability to make an impact in a growing organization, knowing the work I’m doing is meaningful and challenges me daily.

Q. What has been your most memorable moment so far at TBG?

A. Most memorable time was during the Bears tailgate event when Tom had a whole petting zoo of farm animals in the parking lot.

Q. When did you know you wanted a career in finance?

A. I had an influential professor in college who made a lasting impact and aided in my decision to pursue accounting and finance. Back when I had no idea what I wanted to do, my professor showed me that it’s more than just crunching numbers. While this field can come across as very black and white, there is tons of room for creative thinking and strategy. I enjoy identifying problems and adapting solutions to fix those problems, thereby enhancing the organization.

Q. What advice would you give someone who might want to join our company?

A. Always be willing to learn something new. We have a wonderful mix of people from all different backgrounds who come with wonderful experience. Leverage those people to learn and soak up as much as you can.

Q. Do you prefer a beach vacation or a metropolitan adventure?

A. I love to sit on the beach, under an umbrella, with a good book. To me, that is the perfect vacation.

Q. What’s your favorite snack?

A. I love popcorn! All kinds of popcorn and like to try all the different flavor combinations people come up with.

Q. Do you have any hidden talents?

A. I am (arguably) really good at DIY! Give me YouTube, a few tools, and a trip to Home Depot and I can put together something really nice!
