TB Talks- Own Your Path

TB Talks- Own Your Path

I often get people asking me how I was able to build The Brown Group into the business and brand that I have today. Besides working extremely hard I did one thing that I still do to this day. I owned my path. What does that mean? Owning your path means staying the course of your dreams or opportunity. Owning your path means figuring out what your path looks like and staying on that path until you reach your goals. For me I knew early on that I wanted to build a real-estate empire. I had a vision, I mapped out my vision, and I executed that vision with laser focus. That is not to say that it was a straight line to my dreams or an easy journey. I was offered many different opportunities that had nothing to do with my vision. I had many bumps and bruises along the way and still do. But I never strayed away from my vision and kept “owning my path.” ??

Owning your path is a personal journey that only you can create. Don’t try to duplicate someone else’s path. Don’t jump at everything that looks good because that may not be what you are supposed to be doing. That is called “shiny object syndrome”. When you see that “shiny” new opportunity that another person is doing and try to jump onto their path. Just because everyone else is succeeding doing a certain thing does not mean that is a part of your path too. Your path is specifically made for you. ??Also, don’t think that owning your path will be easy.

You still have to work twice as hard especially when the hard times come (trust me owning your path will come with hard times.) You will have to stand firm in your goals and vision when others try and tell you it’s not working or try to get you to do what they want you to do. Everyone won’t understand your path, and that is ok but keep moving forward and never giving up. If you stay on your path eventually, the journey will start to look better and brighter and you will see why owning your path was the best decision for you. ??

I have been searching for the right tone to speak to my organization’s program managers. Own your path.... owning your path is not an excuse to break rules of the organization or to give up if your project is not selected.... thanks for the inspiration!
