Taylor Swift Can Do It With a Broken Heart—So Can You!

I just went to Sweden to see Taylor Swift.
I’m a Swiftie. I admit it. She inspires me.
When Taylor got her start, I was a dad of an 11-year old daughter and guess who chose the songs to play on our road trips? Pretty soon, I knew every word to every song.
Taylor is just now beginning her European tour after the most successful tour of all time in 2023.
A fun fact that I imagine true Swifties like me should know—is that Taylor had a break-up just prior to the start of the 2023 tour. It broke her heart.
And she went on tour anyway. In 2023, she played 52 shows in 6 months. She delivered 3.5-hour magnificent live performances every night. On the days without a concert, she did a work-out that included her singing every song and practicing her dance moves. And, she fell in love again and made time for him and his career in the middle of the biggest tour of all time. Like any true songwriter, she wrote songs about it and released them this April. I saw her perform it live—in a way that would take your breath away.
This is called being a professional. And it’s admirable. And you and I can do it too.
I’m not saying you should avoid your feelings—or that it doesn’t matter if something emotional happens in your life. I’m saying there are spaces for you to bring your full emotion—to share what you are going through—to lean on people and let them lean on you. There are also places where you are in service to the mission you have in life. For Taylor, her mission is to bring joy and music to the world—to her fans. She won’t stop because of a broken heart.
My mission is to make a difference with people through conversation. To show people to themselves in a way that allows them to connect to who they really are—and to take action on what they see. I’m human too—just like Taylor—and I have bad days and heartbreak and grief. But, just like Taylor, I can do it with a broken heart.
I can be a professional. I wouldn’t be serving you or anyone else—I wouldn’t be serving my mission if I let my heartbreaks win. Don’t worry, I’m going to get it all addressed with my own coaching, therapy, friendships, and retreats. In the meantime, I’m also going to serve the world with professionalism.
You can too.
