Tax-Exempt Organizations Must File Information Returns By May 15 - Ask Questions BEFORE You Donate

The Internal Revenue Service reminded certain tax-exempt organizations that the Tuesday, May 15 is the filing deadline for tax exempt organizations that are required to file any of the Form 990 series returns.

Tax-exempt forms that must be made public by the IRS are clearly marked “Open to Public Inspection” in the top right corner of the first page. These include Form 990, Form 990-EZ, Form 990-PF and others.

Reminder - while most charities and not for profit organizations are doing great work and managing funds properly, many are not. You have a right to ask questions and you should ask to see public forms and documents BEFORE YOU MAKE A DONATION or agree to serve on a board of directors for a not for profit, tax exempt organization.
