WO Graduate Internship Chemical/ Mechanical Engineering

The research activities in this assignment include:

Modeling a dynamic PSA cycle operation for CO2 capture from steel gases using MATLAB/Aspen Adsorption tool, testing and validation of the model

Extensive optimization of the different PSA cycle steps, with the focus on achieving reduced CO2 capture cost

Testing of the PSA cycle for different steel gas mixtures (top gases from blast furnace, basic oxygen furnace, direct reduced iron furnace)

Studying the influence of trace pollutants like NH3, H2S, COS present in the steel gases on the adsorbent material

Making a process flow design of the PSA system integrated to the steel plant gas network using flowsheeting tool

Eligibility Criteria:

You are a MSC student in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering

You are interested in process development

You have experience with numerical simulations

You are looking for a graduate internship.

The assignment is intended for an internship of eight to nine months.

We offer you a paid internship with proper guidance. In consultation with you, we start with drawing up your assignment to make sure that it fits the requirements of your university. You can gain valuable experience within a large organization and Dutch only manufacturing industry. The project will be conducted within R&D department of Tata Steel Ijmuiden with great opportunities for networking and being closely involved in the future developments. On a daily base you will working in the R&D innovation centre office, surrounded with other students and colleaguas with different kinds of know-how.

WO Graduate Internship Reducing Energy Consumption and CO2 Emissions

This research internship aims to develop a ROM-based digital twin to simulate the thermal management of torpedo ladle cars and applying advanced digital tools to select the most energetically favourable torpedo car. The research activities in this assignment include:

Develop a ROM for the torpedo using available FEM simulation data, e.g. via physics-based machine learning in Python

Develop in Python a digital twin based on the ROM

Validate model with FEM simulations and compare against commercially available digital twin software

Write report with conclusions on feasibility
