Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM) and Shell India Markets Private Limited (SIMPL) have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on establishing public EV charging stations across India. The partnership aims to address challenges like range anxiety & charging accessibility, leveraging Shell's fuel station network and TPEM's insights from over 1.4 lakh Tata EVs.
They plan to install chargers at locations frequented by Tata EV owners, aiming to encourage more people to adopt electric vehicles. TPEM, a Tata Group subsidiary, holds a 71% market share in India's electric passenger vehicle segment and has launched its first EV-exclusive store in Gurugram. SIMPL, a Shell subsidiary, offers ultra-fast charging at Shell EV Recharge locations.
The partnership intends to establish a network of public charging stations in urban centers, highways, and key transportation hubs, offering fast charging for a convenient EV ownership experience. It also aims to integrate renewable energy sources like solar & wind power into the charging infrastructure to minimize carbon footprint.
This collaboration is expected to drive economic growth and job creation in the EV sector, aligning with the Indian government's initiatives to promote electric mobility and reduce vehicular emissions.
