A Taste of Deux Frères

A Taste of Deux Frères

Deux Frères. Some people know the deal, others don’t. What lies behind the name and who is Deux Frères?

Well. Deux Frères is French and can be translated into?two brothers?in English. In fact, those two brothers are us, my older brother Florian Grundb?ck and I, Gian. Of course, we must not forget the support we get from our lovely team. Without their help, we would only be able to master the challenges we face to a limited extent.?We have to admit that.

Very exciting! Deux Frères is known for its gin. Where exactly did the idea for a dry gin come from?

Yes, but to answer that question we have to go back in time, about six years ago. My brother and I have always been interested in gin and spirits in general. Then, we just had the idea to create our own, somewhat unique gin together. We also organized small tastings in our circle of friends. I think it also has to do with our different personalities. Florian likes to experiment and try out new ideas, whereas I am usually the one informing people or introducing the idea to our friends, families, and surroundings. But in a nutshell, that’s how the idea for our colour-changing gin emerged and we received a lot of positive feedback since then.?That was the beginning of many things.

What do you mean by ‘many things’?

Our vision is to become producers of different tastes, going into various directions. Over the years, we have realized that we don’t want to limit ourselves to just one direction. We also want to live out our diverse and flexible mindset and are always on the lookout for something new, something unique. Recently, for example, we introduced our first in-house organic Rosé wine, which is now available in select shops in Switzerland. So, our goal is to not only be known for our Deux Frères gin, but also to see where the journey of taste will take us.

And how do you organize the communication around the different areas of responsibility, from production to marketing to sales?

That’s an easy one. My brother is responsible for the production part and I am responsible for finances and business. As we are very close, our exchanges are always very intense and transparent. We also sit next to each other in the office, which makes it easier to communicate without barriers.

Very exciting! And you mentioned the development of different products earlier. Does that mean you are always in the process of launching new products?

Well, preferably only products, yes. Because with products, we can use our creativity in terms of design, taste and innovation. However, that is only about 5% of the business. The most important part for our business is that the idea behind our products reach the end consumer and transfer the value we try to communicate. So, on the one hand, we develop new products and, on the other hand, we are constantly looking to further develop our existing products – as we did with the release of a new design for our Deux Frères gin bottle, for example. Because at the end of the day a product is always a project for itself with content, design and function. These elements have to be combined properly in order to reach the highest quality for a business and its products.

That makes sense. And what can we expect in the near future?

The most important drive for us is the desire to constantly offer high quality experiences and qualitative products. That is the first and biggest demand we make on ourselves. In the long run, I think we will produce other unique products. We’ll keep an open mind and wait and see. But we will always be centered around taste. That’s for sure.
