Nestled amidst a busy market, a modest restaurant had become a beloved gathering place for locals. Among its regular patrons was Raman, a young man with a discerning palate. Raman settled into his usual corner seat one fateful evening, expecting the intimate taste. The menu, a familiar sight to him, promised a satisfying evening. However, as his eyes scanned the pages, his anticipation quickly turned into astonishment.?
Raman had grown accustomed to the restaurant's reasonable pricing. The modest fare had always offered excellent value for money, allowing him to indulge in his favourite dishes without breaking the bank. But on this particular evening, it seemed as if the menu numbers had undergone a sudden and inexplicable transformation. The once-familiar prices had been replaced with figures that made Raman question whether he was in the right establishment.
After savouring his meal, which had lost some enjoyment due to the lingering disappointment, Raman approached the counter to pay his bill. As he handed the money to the cashier, his gaze fell upon Sohan, the restaurant owner, who was personally known to him. Raman wanted to question the sudden price surge, which had overshadowed his dining experience.
Visibly taken aback by Raman's inquiry, Sohan hesitated momentarily before responding. He cleared his throat, his expression a mixture of sympathy and understanding. "Raman, my friend," he began, "I apologise for the inconvenience this has caused. I understand that the price hike may come as a surprise, but there are reasons behind it."
A sombre expression washed over Sohan's face as he continued, "As you know, the cost of living has steadily risen. Everything has become more expensive for rent, wages, electricity, and ingredients. I tried my best to absorb these costs without passing the burden onto my customers, but it has become increasingly challenging."
Sohan assured Raman that he had tried to absorb the rising costs as much as possible, but the restaurant's viability was at stake. He emphasised that he valued the patronage of loyal customers like Raman and wanted to continue providing the same high-quality dining experience.
Raman listened intently, his initial frustration gradually melting away and replaced by a profound sense of empathy.?
"Sohan, I sincerely apologise if my words or actions ever led you to believe that I doubted your integrity or the quality of your business practices," Raman said, his voice filled with genuine remorse. "I have the utmost respect for your dedication to providing your customers with delicious food and exceptional service."
Sohan's eyes welled up with tears of gratitude as he replied, "Thank you, Raman. Your understanding means the world to me."
After a brief pause, Raman asked a question lingering in his mind, "Sohan, I've always wondered why you chose not to move your restaurant when the owner increased the rent. With your experience, credibility, and capital, you could have easily opted for a cheaper location or even purchased your own property. Many financiers would have been eager to assist you."
Sohan's eyes held amusement and determination as he looked at Raman. "You raise valid points, my friend. However, there's more to this decision than just financial or practical considerations."
Sohan paused, his gaze lingering on the bustling dining area. "This restaurant isn't just a business to me; it's a part of my life. I've poured my heart and soul into it, and it holds countless memories of laughter, tears, and shared experiences. The walls of this establishment have witnessed my children's growth, my team members' milestones, and our patrons' countless celebrations. It's not easy to walk away from something that has become so deeply ingrained in my identity."
Raman listened attentively, his expression softening. "I understand, Sohan. But you also need to think about your future. This place may have been your launch pad, but it's time for you to spread your wings and soar higher. You have the talent, the skills, and the passion to create something even more remarkable. A place that will truly be your own, where you can leave an enduring legacy."
Sohan nodded thoughtfully. He knew in his heart that Raman spoke the truth. The decision before him was momentous—to leave behind the familiar comforts of his current life and venture into the uncharted territories of the unknown.?
Taking a deep breath, Sohan spoke, his voice a mixture of determination and resolve. "You are right, Raman. The time has come for me to take that leap of faith. I am ready to leave my comfort zone and create something that will define my restaurant's legacy."
Raman smiled, his eyes twinkling with understanding. "Technology has come a long way since you started ten years ago, Sohan," he said. "The tools available to you now were unimaginable back then. You can optimise your operations in countless ways. Imagine using geothermal energy to run your ACs here to minimise electricity costs or procuring fresh ingredients directly from farmers. Better yet, you could even consider starting your farm—poultry, dairy, goats, fisheries, or anything else that aligns with your core business. Diversification is the key. Diversifying into fields related to your restaurant will enhance your offerings and create a more sustainable and resilient business model."
Sohan's mind raced as he absorbed Raman's words. He saw the potential that lay before him—the opportunity to create something extraordinary that would leave a lasting impact on the culinary world. He knew the road ahead would be challenging, but he was determined to embrace the unknown and seize this chance to make his mark.

Sohan delved deeper into his thoughts, and a practical concern emerged. "What about the rent?" Sohan was apprehensive. "How will I manage that?"
Raman listened attentively, a warm smile spreading across his face. Whatever you decide," he said, "there's one cardinal rule that you must always adhere to—never pay the increased rent. It would be far better to close the business than to agree to such a demand."
Sohan nodded in understanding. Raman's wisdom resonated with him. He had poured his heart and soul into building his business, and it seemed unjust that someone else would reap the rewards of his hard work.
"You're right," Sohan said. "It makes perfect sense. Why should I continue to toil away while someone else enjoys the fruits of my labour? It's time for me to move on. I'm not the same Sohan I was all those years ago. I've grown and evolved, and it's time for a new beginning."
Sohan paused, deep in thought. "Well, it seems something is on your mind. Can you suggest something?"
Sensing Sohan's determination, Raman leaned forward and said, "I'm glad you've come to this realisation. Change is often daunting, but it can also be incredibly liberating. Now that you're open to new possibilities, I have an idea that might interest you."
Sohan's eyes widened with anticipation. "Tell me," he said.
"Opportunities, Sohan," Raman emphasised. "These days, the government is actively seeking individuals like you to manage their eating joints at Way Side Amenities, WAS, along the country's rapidly expanding highways and expressways."
A spark ignited in Sohan's eyes as he grasped Raman's vision. "I get it," he exclaimed, "I can then seamlessly integrate my farming and renewable energy concepts more effectively. Wow! That was what you were trying to tell me."
Raman nodded, a smile forming on his lips. "Exactly. You could create something remarkable at these Way Side Amenities with your expertise in sustainable agriculture and passion for renewable energy. Imagine offering travellers fresh, organic food grown right on the premises, powered by solar panels and wind turbines. It would be a game-changer in the industry."
Sohan's thoughts whirled like a cyclone, brimming with limitless possibilities. His mind conjured vivid images of vibrant gardens teeming with various vegetables, fruits, and oil seeds, each nestled harmoniously alongside charging stations for eco-friendly electric vehicles. He envisioned himself leading a passionate team of dedicated individuals united in their mission to create a haven for weary travellers, a sanctuary where sustainability and rejuvenation intertwined.
"Raman, this is it," Sohan exclaimed, his eyes glistening with anticipation and gratitude. "This is the fresh start I've been searching for. Thank you for introducing me to this incredible opportunity. It's an honour to be a part of this groundbreaking project."
Sohan decided to express his appreciation tangibly. "The least I can do is treat you to a drink," Sohan said, a warm smile on his face. "Consider it a small token of my appreciation for your unwavering belief in me. Let's celebrate the start of this new chapter together."
When they sat at a nearby table, Raman and Sohan felt a sense of pride and joy. "You deserve all the success that comes your way, Sohan," Raman said, raising his glass. Here's to new beginnings and the future we're about to create."
Sohan smiled, knowing that Raman had enlightened him. "You're welcome, my friend," he said. "Once you incorporate Nature into your business, everything else, like taxes, price increases, or wages, pales into insignificance. It becomes a win-win situation for all."
Raman nodded in agreement, sipping his drink. "I've always believed that businesses are responsible for the environment, and I'm glad you share my values. By embracing sustainability, you can create a better future for future generations."
Sohan raised his glass, clinking it against Raman's. "To our new venture and to a future where businesses and Nature thrive together," he said.
As they finished their drinks, Sohan felt renewed purpose and determination. He realized he needed to integrate the restaurant business with agriculture because one is heavily taxed while the other is not taxed at all! Renewable energy was another promising thing to adopt. "These ACs consume so much electricity," he pondered, "I keep paying the electricity board. They will be free when I put geothermal energy in."
