Task Rotation
Task Rotation provides teachers with a classroom - friendly framework for differentiating teaching and learning . In using task rotation , teachers present students with four different styles of tasks .
1 ] Mastery Tasks - asks students to remember and describe . Eg sample task - Select a dangerous animal from a textbook unit . Develop a profile sheet that highlights at least eight important features of your animal .
2 ] Understanding tasks - Ask students to reason and explain . Eg Why is your animal important ? Develop a plan that will help others understand the role your animal plays in the world .
3 ] Self - Expressive tasks - Ask students to imagine or create . Eg Create a myth that tells how your animal developed an important trait or behavior .
4 ] Interpersonal tasks - Ask students to explore feelings and relate personally .
By designing and assigning tasks that represent the four learning styles , teachers can create differentiated assessment systems that are manageable , that provide powerful insights into how each student learns , and that are meaningful and motivating for all the learners in their classrooms.
