Targets are not Turbines, Nor are they Tonnes of Hydrogen
Talk about wind turbines and targets for wind turbines are not wind turbines. Nor are they tonnes of green hydrogen.
This is the message of our recent sobering 维斯塔斯 marketing campaign, that there is not enough wind energy being actually built and we are WAY behind on installations to meet climate ambitions. LINK
The same can be said for green hydrogen targets. Last week Hydrogen Insight reported on a recent study by 普华永道 that the EU is very far behind its target of producing 10 million tonnes of green hydrogen within the EU, while also wanting to import another 10 million tonnes by 2030. LINK
In fact, if we want this to be generated by all new renewable energy then I estimated this to be over 100GW of new wind capacity that needs to be operational in the EU by 2030, and an additional 100GW of new wind capacity to be operational outside of the EU to generate the imported green hydrogen, by 2030. PWC estimated 25,000 new wind turbine in EU to be operational to meet the EU-produced volume. This is in addition to the wind turbines needed for onshore and offshore electrification, which are already in question and the focus of the recent 维斯塔斯 campaign.
Where will these turbines go? We need politicians and decision makers to help redesign the auction and support systems to accelerate the build out of wind energy, for both electrification and green hydrogen production.

" a plan for a wind farm is not a wind farm, a promise for a wind farm is not a wind farm, a press conferernce, targets, declarations, climate goals are not wind farms."
