Target Tales: Senior promotions, Sport Support and Strategic Comms

The rain might not have stopped but the daffodils are out so spring is in the air and there’s a spring in our step too.

We kicked off March with two well-deserved promotions in our senior team, we got stuck in to some exciting new client projects, helped businesses navigate change and we’ve also been flexing our issues management muscles.

Variety is the spice of life as they say, and that’s just the way we like it. Here’s an update on some of what we’ve been up to over the past month. All the best, Team Target.

Promotions for our senior team

We’re celebrating more fantastic news this month with promotions for two of our longest-serving team members. Business Development Director, Rachel Meagher, joins the Board as Director and Bethan Simkins takes on the role of Associate Director.

“I’ve worked alongside Rachel and Bethan for 19 years and 16 years respectively and it’s great that they’ve developed their careers to this point here at Target,” says Managing Director, Sam Kandiyali.

“I’m delighted to have Rachel joining the Board with myself, and Colin and Janet Spencer, to continue driving the agency forward with a particular focus on business development. It’s also great to recognise all that Bethan has achieved, and she’ll be supporting the Board as well as continuing to play a fundamental role in leading the team and providing senior counsel to clients including Specsavers, ADEY, Hope for Tomorrow and WEX Trade.”

Colin Spencer, Target’s Chairman, adds: “In the last year, we’ve grown our revenue by 10% which is a great achievement given challenging economic conditions. We’re excited to be building on this positivity with two key promotions to our senior team as we continue to move the business forward, we’re really confident about what the future holds.”Congratulations Rachel and Bethan!

Hitting the Target with Archery GB

Target has been appointed by Archery GB, the national governing body for archery in the UK, to raise awareness of the sport and encourage participation.

Emma Kasprzak, Archery GB's Head of Communications and Marketing, says: "We're really excited to announce we'll be working with Target PR in an Olympic and Paralympic Games year."Awareness and interest in archery increases hugely in a Games year so we want to capitalise on this and use media interest to grow our sport. We'll also be calling on Target's expertise to help clubs to market their events during Start Archery Week and beyond, enabling us to deliver on our vision of 'enriching lives through archery' by introducing even more people to our sport."

Sam Kandiyali, Managing Director at Target, says: “We’re thrilled to be working with Archery GB, raising awareness of such an inclusive sport and harnessing the enthusiasm of an Olympic and Paralympic Games year to reach new audiences. We’re looking forward to working with the inhouse team and supporting archery clubs across the country to help more people benefit from taking part in the sport.”

Client Case Study: Communicating Change

One of the most common challenges we help clients with is how to communicate through periods of significant change. So when the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) voted to change its structure and become part of the National Church Institute (NCI) from 1 January 2024, we provided strategic communications counsel working alongside PGS and its legal team, and in partnership with the NCI’s communications team.

Charity Support

We’re busy teeing up plans for the Target Charity Golf Day so we’re calling on all our golfing friends to come and help us raise funds for the Maggie’s Centre in Cheltenham. We’ll be hosting the event at Brickhampton Golf Club on Thursday 4 July so contact us if you’d like to take part, donate a prize for the raffle or silent auction, or join us for the BBQ at the 19th hole at the end of the day!

Where We've Been and Where We're Going

After a little Easter break, we’ll be getting out and about visiting clients and catching up with some of our creative partners to hatch more plans for the coming months. We’re also looking forward to taking part in some of our networking groups including meeting up with Opendoorz Oxford, visiting the Food Dock with Constructing Excellence Gloucestershire, and attending the next Cyber Sips event.
