TARC chooses Solar Energy Solutions for installation of large-scale solar system

Louisville, Ky. (Aug. 26th 2022) – Solar Energy Solutions (SES), a commercial solar installer based out of Lexington, KY with Louisville operations, provided a 60.48 kW rooftop solar system for the Transit Authority of River City (TARC) to replace a smaller solar array at their headquarters on 1000 W. Broadway in Louisville, already a LEED Gold building.

The $122,000 array—funded by TARC’s Low or No Emission grant award—is made up of 126 Q.CELL 480 W panels manufactured in Dalton, GA. It will produce around 73,000 kWh per year, reducing CO2 emissions by the equivalent amount of carbon sequestered by 61.2 acres of forest annually.

SES also partnered with Louisville Metro Government on the Solar Over Louisville Campaign, further propelling the city towards 100% renewable energy by 2040.

“Unpredictable and rising energy costs bring uncertainty to our operations. Installing solar requires zero ongoing costs and gives us assurance going forward,” says Carrie Butler, Executive Director of TARC. “Alongside our other sustainability initiatives, like the?incorporation of extended-range battery-electric?buses, we will be making energy costs more predictable, save money, and contribute to sustainability goals.”

SES has a growing portfolio of commercial installations in Kentucky. In 2020, SES finished the largest rooftop solar installation in the state on Mall St. Matthews and Oxmoor Mall. The 1.27 MW system will save 59,678,550 lbs of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere over its lifetime. SES has also constructed over 30 systems for the Kentucky National Guard, alongside a 5 MW project in Ohio completed earlier this year.
