#TAPTeamTakeover: Meet Rhys Nimmo

Have you ever wondered what agency life is like for a Video and Motion Designer? It's your chance to find out in this month's #TAPTeamTakeover as we sit down with Rhys Nimmo to find our more about his role.

Q: What does your day-to-day look like at Armstrong?

Since joining the agency earlier this year, it's been going really well. I’m currently working on an animation project for Knauf and some other videography projects too. I’m enjoying my daily strolls around Chester for lunch.

Q: Can you tell us more about your career background and journey so far?

I started as a marketing apprentice and then got headhunted to work for Nissan College in Sunderland in its engineering department. This job took me to the Abu Dhabi and Texas Grands Prix! Eventually I moved back home and started working as a 360VR videographer and quickly became involved in traditional videography, too. We travelled globally and got to work with the likes of Amazon, Mercedes and Rolls Royce. More recently, I moved into a managerial position in the corporate world, but quickly decided I wanted to be back in a more creative role - that’s when the opportunity to join Armstrong came along!

Q: What do you enjoy most about your job and why?

The unreal atmosphere in the office due to the building and the people inside it. Everyone is so talented, and I think this is my first job where I’ll constantly be learning and becoming better at my trade. I hope I have a long future as part of the Armstrong team.

Q: Where do you find inspiration for your work?

I’m active on social media and enjoy keeping up to date with the latest trends on the various platforms. There’s some amazing video and animation techniques out there that I enjoy trying to one up! I love the cinema and probably do my girlfriend’s head in analysing every film; everywhere I look it crosses my mind whether a film can be made about it.

Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

I’m a people person and I was told that the people around me are my greatest asset. I will know stuff that they won’t, and they will know stuff that I don’t. Work as a team; learn, and be yourself. Being likeable is half the battle.

Q: From your perspective, what does the future look like for creative industries?

I think now the world is more connected than ever, people are gaining inspiration and learning how to push the boundaries of what’s possible much quicker. With that in mind, the technology involved in creating an idea is advancing too. The desire to constantly do better than what has been done before, mixed with the advancing industry tools. I believe the future of the creative industry is looking promising.??

Q: What’s your favourite way to end the day?

Whether it be family, my girlfriend or the lads. Going out for food or a drink with the people in my life is always fun. Getting stuck into the next TV series is another option!
