Tap Into The Power Of Adversity

Tap Into The Power Of Adversity

With everything going on the world right now it’s easy to focus on the trouble and the fear. When we’re under stress we feel out of control. It’s like being in a fast-moving car without a steering wheel, or worse someone else has the wheel. This virus certainly isn’t our first challenge but it is the first one like this in the whole world. We are facing challenges we have never faced before.

I have two gifts for you at the end of this blog.

What if you believed there is enormous power we can tap into as we go through adversities. Wouldn’t it be great if we really believe that? Well, it’s true. Adversity does mold our character one-way or the other. Trying to avoid adversity is like trying to avoid life. If you are somehow able to hide from adversity, you are unlikely to be really living.

In adversity and tough times, we have the opportunity to grow.  We have the option to grow in ways we wouldn’t grow without them. Adversity helps to develop our character; just as weight training develops our muscles. I don’t particularly enjoy either of them. But we like the results. Character is built by adversity but strong character is not the inevitable result of adversity.

It’s how we respond to difficulty and what we learn that upgrades our character. Our inner world shapes how we relate to our outer world. You can discover the treasure within the trouble, but you must train yourself to look for it! Times may be tough, and new challenges could either defeat you or inspire you. They can either tear you down or build you up. As Alexander Graham Bell wrote when one door closes another one opens.

HOW YOU CAN TAP INTO THE POWER OF ADVERSITIES:

  1. Look for the treasure in the trouble: Ask yourself, “What can I learn through and from the challenge? “
  2. Stay grateful:  There is always something to be grateful for in any situation. When we keep an attitude of gratitude it actually changes our brain chemistry and we find more joy and peace in life.
  3. Trust: Increasing your level of trust in God. For me, this has been life-changing. Beginning to know, I mean really know that God is with me and for me!  He has made situations in my life that looked impossible to turn for my good. He promised to always be with me! (First 2 steps are important in this)

What if….

  • Imagine Him with you: Start by seeing God with you in whatever you do and wherever you are. For example, at your board meeting, while deliberating on issues, see the Lord there in the boardroom with you, guiding you in your thinking. And you can be sure that His presence will bring clarity of thought and wisdom to you. You will find yourself flowing with great and sound ideas.
  • If you are going for an interview, see Him there in the interview room with you, putting answers in your mouth. Your nervousness will melt away as you see His favor on you bringing on smiles and approving nods from the interviewers.
  • Perhaps you are going for surgery. Well, see Him in the operating theatre with you, guiding the hands of the surgeons. Your worries will dissipate, trust, and peace will grow.
  • If you are in the middle of an argument, see Him standing within earshot. Your words will change and your body language will become more reconciliatory as you see Him right there with you extending His grace to you.

When you become conscious of God’s presence in your life, worries and fears will have no foothold in your mind. As you begin to know that the One who loves you and is watching over you is also with you.

As you practice knowing God is with you, you will begin to see Him with you in whatever you do and wherever you are. With God’s help, you can convert all difficult circumstances to your advantage.

As promised, I HAVE 2 GIFTS FOR YOU TODAY.

It's so easy to get lost by focusing on what we can't control. These are great tips to overcome that!

Thank you Donna! As always, you have just the right message I need to hear/see in the moment I am in. I'm not sure how you do it! I love the Things I Can Control tool. I have some other tools that are weekly accountability things, but I am adding this to my morning routine. When things feel overwhelming, I think having set up my day with this tool will help pull it back in. Your presence and caring for others is so inspiring. I'm grateful to have met you. Thank you for all you do for others.
