The Reflection

AI in Recruitment: This topic has been inescapable over the last few months.?

  • Will AI revolutionise recruitment??
  • Will AI replace Recruiters?
  • Should it make any difference to the average Recruiter?

The answers are: Yes, no and maybe.

Yes: AI technology will dramatically improve HR tech, creating tools that do a lot more for us users.

No: AI won’t replace Recruiters. Although it will replace coordinators, schedulers and other support functions. AI enhances Recruiters, enabling Recruiters to be better at their jobs, not just quicker.

Maybe: The average Recruiter uses a broad tech stack. AI tech will start to underspin all new tech and gradually replace and upgrade existing tech. At the end of the day, AI or no AI, a Recruiter still needs to evaluate the tools based on their features and benefits. Don’t get excited just because it's got AI on the label.

The first big opportunities for AI in recruitment are:

  • CV screening
  • Data-driven recommendations
  • Hiring based on potential, not experience

Google Trends (UK data only)

Some interesting trends that you might want to think about.?

Is the demand for remote working waning??

Google searches for the term? “remote working” in the UK have ranked consistently strongly for the last 12 months.

No alt text provided for this image
https://trends.google.co.uk/trends/explore?geo=GB&q=remote%20working&hl=en-GB

Q1 figures (on LinkedIn ) show Customer Service jobs are the fourth most in-demand globally after Nurses, Sales and Software Engineers. But, Customer Service jobs often lack the ability to work remotely. Is there a big competitive advantage here for 2023 hiring? Harvard Business Review believes so, with hybrid working to reach the front lines at number two in their 2023 predictions: https://hbr.org/2023/01/9-trends-that-will-shape-work-in-2023-and-beyond

If you thought Remote working was a hot topic, what about ChatGPT?

No alt text provided for this image
https://trends.google.co.uk/trends/explore?geo=GB&q=remote%20working,chatgpt

Wow, what an indication of the sheer volume of searches for ChatGPT far outstripping searches for remote work since the end of 2022.

But if you thought that was impressive, the number of searches for jobs dwarfs both ChatGPT and remote working…

Perhaps another strong indication of the need for Recruiters. No technology will lessen the demand for jobs.

Of the top four most in-demand jobs (LinkedIn ), which are searched for the most?

No alt text provided for this image
The most in-demand jobs are 1: Nurse, 2. Sales, 3. Software Engineering 4. Customer Services

We know how tough it is to find Software Engineers, but is that the case with Customer Services, which exhibits the second lowest amount of searches for jobs?

NB: I added Recruitment jobs purely to see how they ranked with the top four.

Final thought:

“There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." (Mark Twain? c 1907)

The Josh Bersin take on AI and HR Tech??

Whether you are excited by the advent of AI in HR tech and don't know where to start, or bewildered by the sudden surge of people telling you to get onboard with AI, this explainer from one of our industries long-term thought leaders simplify how and why all HR tech will be AI-based moving forward.

HR tech product updates (in no particular order)

All the new features and the new integration partners in one place.

Workable

Probably the biggest product news comes from Workable this month as they announce a new feature and the new utilisation of AI across their product with an hour-long streamed event featuring their CEO, CTO and CHRO. In a nutshell, it boils down to:

  • New onboard and HR management features
  • A new welcome centre for new hires, including welcome video, docs for signing, org chart. This combines with customisable workflow automation for HR/Talent teams, a progress dashboard to track all new hires and HR document storage and e-signature capability.

Is this a big move by Workable into the HRIS market?

  • YES, with more features including time off management are coming soon. It seems like Workable is challenging BambooHR to be the ATS/HRIS all-in-one system of choice.?

How much are the new features?

  • Free on all Workable plans

Workable is also integrating AI across its product including:

Job title and profile generation, real-time salary insights for new roles, candidate sourcing and outreach email generation. Job interview question generation, interview transcription and summaries, and even offer letters.

Although not all these features are live, but being rolled out across the rest of 2023:

Check out a demo here:

Greenhouse

Three main enhancements from Greenhouse, including personal Recruiter goals and company goals for tracking progress. Metrics include Time to submit scorecards, Time to approve offers, etc. These are reportable goals with an attached percentage attainment grade.?

It should be noted that Greenhouse already has an Onboarding product module, and they have extended its functionality with ‘Onboarding goals’ that track tasks that new hires should complete during their first 30 days.?

Lastly,a new pay transparency feature allows the standardisation of how salary ranges are displayed on job ads, across an organisation.

Alex Powell, Sr Director Product explains in this video:

Lever

Lever has added a new SMS / Candidate texting for time-saving and reducing candidate ghosting. The key driver here is that the average open rate for texts is 98% vs only 20% for email.?

Lever has also streamlined the creation and approval of job requisitions, postings and offers with customisable user permissions. Similarly, a new proxy approval functionality can speed up approvals when designated approvers are not available.

There is a new ability to schedule Data Explorer report sharing and there is enhanced granularity for reporting, including identification of active candidates that are associated with closed job postings.

Lever also welcomes four new integration partners into their marketplace:

Pave : data-driven compensation platform?

HireUp : referral platform that engages your employees

Transcend : data governance, consent, data subject rights management

Sora : automate employee onboarding

Ashby

Several enhancements have been made around interview scheduling including the ability to make candidates select a minimum number of days they are available for interview, avoiding back-and-forth when scheduling interviews. There is a better sync between Google Calendar and Ashby, and individual interview scheduling preferences can now be recorded and viewed.

Additionally, Ashby have added e-signatures for NDA’s, employment contracts, etc.

Ashby’s new integration partners:

TeamOhana : headcount management platform

Trusty : referral management platform

Recruitee

Dark mode makes its much requested debut on Recruitee. As does an enhancement to career site design making backgrounds editable. There is also a tweak to the settings to enable visibility of hired candidates. The most interesting feature is definitely the new AI job description generator. A typical use case can be seen based on this prompt:?

Create a job description for the Senior Product Designer role at [company]. The text should be simple and max 200-300 words long.

And that's it, a full, editable JD is created in about 30 seconds.

New integration partners:

Isograd Testing Services : Pre-employment skills assessments and certifications

ApplyPRO: ? AI CV screening, recommendations and globally-shareable talent pools

Kombo : Unified API provider allowing users to integrate with any ATS, HRIS or LMS through one interface

Team Tailor

No product additions, but plenty of new marketplace integration partners:

Hired.com : Tech and sales sourcing platform

Zelt : HRIS with focus on automation and self-service?

Juno Journey : learning & development operations platform

Goshaba : Cognitive assessment using science and video games

Asker : Specialist interview design platform, with ready-made structured interview guides

Central Test : Assessment solutions, predictive matching, video interviewing, proctoring

Vismasign : e-signature solution, sign documents from anywhere, on any device

And several new job board integrations:
