The telecom sector in Tanzania is growing fast!! With Vodacom Tanzania and Airtel Tanzania as the leading operators with the largest customer bases and extensive network coverage.

Tanzania's telecommunications market is a competitive arena, featuring major players like Vodacom, Airtel, Tigo, Halotel, and TTCL with a reported 76.5 Million sim cards in total.

This March 2024, DAR ES SALAAM STOCK EXCHANGE listed Vodacom Tanzania , has reported the growth of net profit by 19.9% to?53.4bn/-?during the year ended in March 2024, from 44.5bn/- recorded during the year ended in March 2023, amid foreign exchange challenges, keeping Vodacom at top of their game.

Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) reported that Tanzanians used 149 billion megabytes (MB) of internet data. This amount was shared across nearly 39 million internet subscriptions, meaning the average Tanzanian uses around 3,800 MB per month (as per one of Isai Mathias 's analysis.)

Despite having a lot of customers, some customers say they are not impressed with their customer services.

  • Per Month: 1.0 GB in 2021 rising to 1.4 GB in 2023.▲
  • Per Day: 33 MB in 2021 rising to 46 MB in 2023 ▲

The growth in customer numbers, data usage, and mobile money transactions emphasizes on expansion and increasing reliance on digital services. This great performance is caused due to strategic collaborations and partnership, marketing and increase in network coverage, covering more regions in Tanzania than before.
