The Tanishq ad doesn't deserve the attention it is getting.

If an ad changes your perception or influences you in a good way or gives you a deep insight or makes you sit up and think... then it is considered a good ad.
There is nothing new in the Tanishq ad. It is not introducing us to a new emotion or giving us any food for thought. I have seen inter-religion marriages. That too 20 years ago. Hindu boy. Muslim girl. And by the way the couple is still a couple. The TAnishq ad didn't give me world-changing insight.
There have been ads that highlighted things that need to change in our society- I remember the ad where the girl was looking for a groom for a mom. I was moved by it. A recent ad which shows a girl changing a tyre- i think it is great. A husband doing laundry was actually a new way of thinking especially in our society where women end up doing all the household chores. There are many examples. The ads were radically different and did make us sit up and think. They nudged us to change a belief, a habit or even a behaviour.
Tanishq ad came out at the wrong time. Saying nothing new. And then pulled out the ad as if they never believed in what they said.
Will the ad change my thinking? Will it make me look at a particular religious group with different eyes? Will it dislodge an age-old custom that holds no value now? The answer to all these questions is a big NO.
And all the drama, reactions and vandalizing shops is utter nonsense too.
God created us equal.
It is politics that divides us.

4 年I do agree with you Tamanna Virmani, there is nothing new in the Tanishq ad. It's like old wine in a new bottle. And, unfortunately, it came out at the wrong time.
