The Government must prioritise the energy transition goal by accelerating renewable energy initiatives in the coming years. These challenges include the burden of overgeneration capacity, the phased elimination of capacity payment for quick rental power plants, inadequacies in the planning of transmission and distribution systems, uncertainties in the fuel import mechanism, the debilitating impact of the dollar crisis on fossil fuel imports, a nascent interest in domestic coal transition, the necessity for imported fuel price adjustments as per International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditionalities, and setting robust and transparent targets for renewable energy deployment. It is expected that the new government will announce an action plan to address the energy transition challenges to effectively tackle these energy transition challenges. ?
On the sidelines of the World Trade Organisation's 13th Ministerial Conference (MC13) in Abu Dhabi, a session titled ‘Climate Technology and Intellectual Property: A Repeat of the Access to Medicines Debate or Something New?’ was organised as a side event of the International Institute for Sustainable Development Trade and Sustainability Hub. ? The session was co-organised by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) and Boston University’s Global Development Policy Center on 28 February 2024.
The high-level US Government delegation visited Dhaka for a roundtable on Economic Reforms. The discussion focused on important issues such as exchange rate, foreign currency reserve, inflation, financial sector, journey towards upper middle-income status among other issues. Dr Fahmida Khatun, Executive Director, CPD, joined the session and had an interactive discussion on Bangladesh economy with high level U.S. delegation.?
