Taming the Chaos: Managing Time and Tasks Behind the Scenes

The Boston Art Show is completed and in the past…now its time to prepare for the December Art Show.

A lot goes on behind the scenes to make it look incredible and I wanted to open up that curtain.

#1: The most important…the art! I can’t call it an art show if there is no art to display. My goal is 8 pieces based upon NYC architecture and I have an ambitious planned outlined. I need to finish 1 piece every 5/6 days until December 5th. My focus right now is planning each out, gathering supplies, and going for it. The most important aspect here is action.

#2: The invite and theme…for this upcoming show it is ”Order Amongst Chaos”. It hit me during the Boston art how important a theme is to a successful art show. I need to let people in and be able to communicate what I am trying to express. Without that connection, the viewers could stand there and think “What am I looking at?” and more importantly “Why was this painted?”

#3: Ambiance and vibe. An important element of an art show is determining how I want the attendees to feel. When they walk out the door what is going through their mind? And when they wake up the next day will there be a lasting impact? That is very much at the forefront for December. Not only am I displaying my art but I am also displaying myself. It is more pressure but I crave it. That is why I am spending time to figure out music, lighting, drinks, after party, etc.

#4: Getting the word out. I can make all the art, plan and decorate an incredible space but if no one shows up then it was all for not. That is why I need to be both strategic and tactical on getting that RSVP count to increase. That involves primarily building the list of family, friends, and colleagues I want there. Then building a 2nd list of people with whom I might not have a direct connection with but I would like them to attend. Lastly its using social media and potentially some Brooklyn guerrilla marketing tactics.

All of which is to say I am juggling a great deal BUT if I stay focused and driven across all 4 of these groups then the December show will be a hit!
