Tall People Don't Jump now in print

For those who have been asking, my book Tall People Don't Jump - the curious behaviour of human beings is now available as a paperback book through CreateSpace - https://www.createspace.com/4857930

Thank-you to the hundreds of people who downloaded the e-book version and to those who took the time to review it.

This is an extract from the media release:

"This new book by Shane Rodgers turns the spotlight on the peculiar unwritten rules that govern modern society and our blind acceptance of conventions and obsessions that consistently defy logic. In Tall People Don’t Jump, Rodgers gives a fresh, satirical take on the everyday behaviour we take for granted.

He explores our daily battle with our own brain, the bizarre challenges of raising children and the curious norms we have created around popular culture. The book turns the spotlight on our obsession with weather and space, our life-long quest for a car parking space and the awkward evolution of men from he-man, cave clubbers to largely-confused, new age, multidisciplinary post-homo sapiens. Then there is our struggle to keep up appearances, our guilty relationship with the mini-bar, elevator protocol, moving house and our manic determination to constantly celebrate milestones.

The book covers more than 100 topics, mixing observation, satire and the odd bit of actual research.

“As I get older I find that life is more likely to bemuse me than cause stress or angst,” Rodgers says. “In particular I have always been fascinated by our unquestioning acceptance of unwritten requirements, or even written ones, that don’t make much sense. “Here we are on a tiny blue planet, in a lonely corner of a vast, dark seemingly endless universe, yet we can worry for 20 minutes about what they mean by smart casual.”

A keeper. 4 August 2014By j_rivReally great read, highly recommended. Somehow this book weaves its way into your psyche and without realising it you start quoting lines verbatim or chuckling to yourself as you observe some of the phenomenon that Shane highlights.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant tour through the modern mind 25 June 2014By RustyI thoroughly enjoyed this book. Shane’s laconic style and keen powers of observation kept me alternating between uproarious laughter and those quiet nods acknowledging a point well made. From the general and useful insight into human nature – particularly the often strange and unusual thought processes behind the behavior of men – to the specifics of peculiarly Australian customs, Shane captures with wit and a generous spirit some less observed parts of modern life. If you’ve ever wondered why men seem to cling desperately to a favorite shirt you will get the inside scoop from this wonderful book. Definitely recommended.

Worth a Read June 3, 2014By AntoniaTall people don't jump but I think everyone should jump at this opportunity to read Shane's satirical musings of human behaviour. This book would appeal to everyone, regardless of age, gender or upbringing. Shane's book is cleverly divided into delicious pieces of every day life, covering topics such as dreams, oddities and driving. With "ahhh, I know" and "gosh, exactly" moments for everyone to enjoy, this book really is a gem. With the use of clever word play, Shane conjures up numerous scenarios that have you chuckling throughout the day. From road rage to babies that "eat, poo, destroy" to claims that "humans were never meant to iron", which I completely agree with, I've got to thank the author for this great read. It's now living happily on my iPad for another rainy day.

A chipped diamond. May 9, 2014By KDeathflagA fun and humorous romp through one mans view of the world. What held this back was an attempt, too blithe, to describe the U.S.A.s' political system and a poor understanding of 2nd ammendment geographic spread, as Abbott once said "boy, did that lay." Otherwise a fine read. (note to author. Make people pay for this. It is priced right and well worth the money.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique and funny take on the curious behaviour of human beings June 4, 2014By colleen clurI love this book. Shane covers all the quirks and foibles of human behaviour in a highly readable, succint style. Practically every modern human activity is subjected to his witty take, from hot-baked Christmas dinner in Australia, to the accumulation of "stuff", and why we can't take our eyes off mirrors. If you've ever wondered why men are not sexy in flanelette pyjamas, you will get the answer from this unique book. Highly recommended.
