Léon Marchand is one of the biggest social media winners of the Olympics so far, with 751 thousand mentions over the last 12 days. Most conversations are about his upcoming stardom, as he has won 4 gold and 1 bronze medal so far, each with an Olympic record time.

His success has been said to be uniting France, with this TikTok of the French national team cheering Marchand going viral with 1.3 million views.

Simone Biles has had similar success in gymnastics for the US. She’s won 3 gold and 1 silver medal so far. This interview following her win in the Womens’ Vault has been viewed 12.8 million times. Andrade went on the beat Biles to Gold in Womens’ Floor.

Not every viral winner has been mentioned by name. Sometimes their actions, or images, went big without being accredited to them.

Yusuf Dike?’s name might not be as talked about, but the image of him casually winning the Silver in the Mixed 10m Air Pistol has been shared across the web in a variety of memes.

Meanwhile, this well-timed photo of Gabriel Madina also went viral, following his defining Olympic surf. This one post has been seen over 10.2 million times.

Brand winner

Omega has provided the games with the latest in technology to capture the tightest photo finish. In the Men’s 100m, this was critical, as all 8 competitors finished the race in under 10 seconds - the fastest 100m men’s ever. Omega’s photo finish showed that Noah Lyles won by just 0.005 seconds.

Not only did Omega capture that record-breaking moment, but with well-placed sponsorship, their logo was shared alongside the story. Helping the brand pick up around 10,000 extra mentions from that race.
