What a Week for Sports Fans
The past week has been a bonanza for sports enthusiasts, featuring the FIBA Basketball World Cup final, the US Open, the NFL kick-off, the Rugby World Cup, and a charity football match that brought some of YouTube's finest talent together.
The NFL led the conversation over the last 30 days with 6 million mentions. It was followed by the US Open with 1.7 million mentions, the FIBA Basketball World Cup with 1.3 million, and the recently started Rugby World Cup with 327,000. It's worth noting that the NFL's near-year-round schedule gives it a conversational advantage over these other seasonal or one-off events, while the Rugby World Cup has only just kicked off.
Trending Tournament Tales
Each tournament sparked unique discussions:
In the NFL, a game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans concluded with a Scorigami. Invented by sports writer John Bois, a Scorigami is a final score that’s never been seen previously in NFL history, with its rarity driving conversations. This tweet about the unique score garnered over 115,000 engagements from number-focused fans.
The US Open attracted celebrity attention when Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet were spotted together in the crowd, generating over 72k mentions, or 4% of the event's conversations.

It also led to the creation of this meme, with Max Fosh attempting to Uno Reverse his yellow card. Taken from the popular Uno card game, the card usually reverses the direction of play, but the term has come to mean the ultimate comeback that no one can resist.
The meme went viral, amassing 59.8k mentions of ‘Uno Reverse’ in just a week. Interestingly, Uno recently announced a partnership with the NFL. Did they play their cards right? Only time will tell.
