The most significant driver of conversation was the pomp and extravagance of the event, closely followed by discussions related to Prince Harry's attendance. This was despite a strained relationship with the new king.

Not everyone celebrated

There has been an increase in anti-monarchy sentiment, with 244.2K mentions of "not my King" in the last 13 months. This peaked on the day of the coronation with 70.7K mentions, many of which were related to police handling of protesters.

Crowning the best brands

The coronation led to a boost in high street sales, with consumers purchasing party accessories and food. There were 15.6K mentions of "coronation chicken" or "coronation quiche" in the past seven days, with retailers such as Asda, Sainsbury's, and Aldi gaining media mentions from their coronation-focused promotions.

Finally, Guinness unexpectedly gained visibility from a viral "ad" that matched the tone of the event, resulting in 2.7K visual mentions detected through image recognition. Although later revealed as a spoof, the campaign did not harm the brand's reputation. For the coronation, people were willing to believe good things come to those who wait.

Spoof Guinness ad shared on LinkedIn. A stylized glass of Guiness is shown on a black background, so only the head is visiable. This has peaks, making it appear crown-like. The caption is "good things come to those who wait"
