I recently had the opportunity to appear as a guest on the Maryland State Library Agency (MSLA) Podcast with interviewer and MSLA Communications Manager Tim Pratt.
Tim and I discussed the librarianship, the impact of technology on our profession, and how libraries will navigate the age of AI. I share why despite the challenges ahead, I am nothing but optimistic on the future of libraries. I hope you'll give it a listen!
- Lifehacker has published a new series "Exposing A.I.", which provides detailed information on how to detect AI-generated content. The series covers writing, chatbots, text-to-image, text-to-video, music, and speech. A good, comprehensive resource!
- EIFL (Electronic Information for Libraries) has released an Artificial Intelligence and Open Science Training Programme Outline?for librarians and open science trainers. This resource can be used to develop training about the ethical and responsible use of AI, and is published under a creative commons license (CC BY 4.0).
- The U.S. Copyright Office has just released Part 1 of its findings and recommendations on copyright and artificial intelligence. This report focuses on digital replicas, defined as "a video, image, or audio recording that has been digitally created or manipulated to realistically but falsely depict an individual." Read the report here.
Some of my recent and upcoming events:
- I a sat down for an interview with Denise Wilson on her Let's Talk Libraries Podcast to share a public librarian perspective on artificial intelligence.
- Interested in the intersection of AI and hashtag libraries? Check out this free 2-day virtual conference Unlocking the Future: AI Innovations in Libraries. I'll be providing one of the keynotes: "A Public Library Perspective on Artificial Intelligence in Libraries".
- I'll be appearing (virtually) at the London Libraries Conference 2024. The conference is an in-person event. Tickets are available here.
- For those on Long Island, the Long Island Library Resource Council has their annual Conference on Libraries and the Future. I have the good fortune to serve as the conference chair, and our organizers have put together an incredible event centered on the theme "The Future of Reading". Learn more about it here.
