The Talk of The Town Wi-Fi 6E

The newest talk of the town in the Wi-Fi world is 6E.??

Let’s?start with the basics as I am no Wi-Fi architect or engineer. Wi-Fi 6E was developed to?take advantage of the 6GHz spectrum that was made available by the US last year.??This new spectrum allows people like you,?your organization?and I?to?leverage?larger channels, higher data rates and the ability to spread out?away from the?already heavily used 2.5GHz (Not recommended) and 5GHz bands. At a High Level 6E when fully adopted into all tech that leverage's Wi-Fi will be better than what we currently have! Just like going from a cassette with the audio cord you used in your car in the yearly 90's to your Iphone13 and Bluetooth.

Sounds Great! But?let's?take?a step back and look at what its going to take to leverage Wi-Fi 6E. Well?first,?almost?none of?your current technology has the capability to leverage 6E.?So even if you plan?to update?your Wi-Fi infrastructure?it is?not?going to help.?Second there are very few vendors that have released APs that are 6E?compatible,?meaning?you are?going to pay a pretty penny for the technology.?Finally,?and most?importantly,?do you really?have an environment that needs this type of performance??5GHz is fantastic for 85% of the organizations out there!??

My professional opinion is unless you have money to spend, your technology stack is going to be 6E?compatible?and your Wi-Fi infrastructure refresh aligns with?your vendors 6E AP rollout, do not make the swap! Shut off 2.5GHz if you can, leverage 5GHz and make sure?it is?tuned properly.?Eliminate?coverage gaps, identify channel?interference, figure out what Driver and Adaptor version is working best with your APs?and 95% of the time this will be enough.??
