Media Savvy Tip of the Week

Remember, major news events that capture the nation's attention are local events somewhere.

With Hurricane Milton dominating national headlines, remember to check local news sources in Florida for real-time updates. Local news tends to be more accurate, faster, and filled with critical details that national outlets can gloss over in an attempt to appeal to a broad audience. Your best information comes from the journalists who are there. Keep in mind that this is a moment when you, the public, can make a big difference for the small news outlets working overtime to cover this hurricane while they are still wet and soggy from covering Helene.?For instance, the Naples Daily News asks 10 cents for a month's subscription. Why not send a buck and boost their morale when they need it the most?

Modern Branding Masterclass Recap: What They Learned ?

Our?Modern Branding Masterclass?focused on creating and strengthening a brand to attract news coverage. Attendees walked away with actionable strategies to sharpen their brand identity and build stronger connections with their audience. WSHU News Director Terry Sheridan added a new dimension to the session with a lesson in public speaking as only a radio pro can teach. But don’t just take our word for it: ?

"The Fair Media Council's masterclass on branding was both fun and informative. Using the lens of pop culture, it helped us identify and define the key attributes that members/customers are looking for. It's very easy to get caught up in what you do and lose track of the why. The class gave us the tools to refocus our emphasis on the why.?The session on announcing was an unexpected bonus which will help anyone who has to speak to the public, the media, or even a small group of colleagues. I look forward to FMC's next session." - Jay Schoenfeld, Temple Isaiah

?

"If you're looking to differentiate yourself in the often crowded marketplace, then this masterclass session on branding is key. You'll learn how having a strong sense of your brand, as well as its strengths and weaknesses, will help you to attract more media opportunities, the kind that will get you the attention you're looking for as you navigate through today's ever-challenging media landscape." - Paul C. Focazio, New York Sea Grant
