A talk with Balint Bank Varga (The Wild Gentlemen) – 3rd winner at ‘Indie Empowered’

We talked with Balint Bank Varga (Co-Founder, Writer and Designer at The Wild Gentlemen) about their game Project “Chicken Police”, a narrative-driven noir adventure:

Bank: "I  started working on the idea in 2011, and it began as a screenplay for a short animation and in 2013 I decided to make a video game instead - which had been one of my biggest dreams since childhood. After resting for years I built in 2018 our team (The Wild Gentlemen), around the project."

Chicken Police is almost like a strange movie, unique and absurdly magical – a pure noir experience. Of course, it wouldn't be a game without real gameplay; that's why the story features complex interrogation sections, tons of secrets, junctions, some light puzzles, and funny little minigames. But the emphasis is always on the narrative and the main storyline.

The essence of Chicken Police is storytelling. Especially the dialogues, characters, the relationship between the two protagonists (Sonny Featherland and Marty MacChicken), and the rich lore of the world which are all crucial parts of the experience.

“The biggest challenge and the most exciting thing about Chicken Police, was its movie-like visuals since we had to photograph all the human and animal models individually. Most of the characters are, of course, ourselves, but for example, Natasha (the femme fatale) was brought to life by a professional model - and a professional cat.”
