Tales of Sales: My Love for Sales

Tales of Sales: My Love for Sales

Like most other sales professionals, I did not grow up dreaming of a job in sales! In actual fact, I wanted to be a Midwife, but that is a story for another day!

Sales is a funny one, we all seem to fall into it and then never chose to leave but we grow and our career develops, perhaps taking us down new avenues and across multiple sectors, but hardly ever away from sales….so why is that?

For me there are a number of reasons I love my sales career, here’s just some of them:

-         Unlimited Opportunities. In sales, there are no limits except those you put on yourself, speak to any top performer on a sales team and they will have an innate belief that nothing can stop them.

-         Continuous Learning. You can and will never know everything, with the world constantly evolving, sales will continue to follow. New products, new offerings and new clients to sell to means that every day in sales, is indeed a school day.

-         Helping People. Despite the stigma that surrounds salespeople, we really do help! Solutions to improve businesses, individuals’ lives, improve quality…..the list is endless. Every product and service sold is to benefit another in multiple ways.

-         Being an Optimist. With the amount of rejection, can you be anything but? The ability to dust yourself off and move on to the next, just comes natural to anyone in this profession – yes, it’s tough and can be a struggle but we keep coming back from more and with every ‘no’ we get, we are just one step closer to the ‘yes’ we have been waiting for.

-         Building Relationships. My favourite part of sales! As cheesy as it sounds, people buy from people is so true! Sales is all about building those relationships and the trust that they bring – if you conduct yourself with honesty and integrity and build those relationships, you will never need to sell! I have many people in my life that I would consider friends that started as clients.

-         Overcoming Obstacles. Each hurdle and stumbling block along the way has made me who I am today, both personally and professionally. An obstacle is just an opportunity to learn and to explore different ways of reaching the same destination – I guess there is the optimist in me coming out!

-         Unlimited Rewards. Let’s face facts, one of the best perks to a career in sales is your earning potential – what other career allows you to be paid more, the more you achieve! Yes, targets and deadlines are demanding and pressurised but we certainly gain the rewards when we see the commission in our pay packet – it’s our driving force – the more successful we are the more we earn….if that doesn’t motivate you – you are not born for sales!

-         Teamwork. Sales is all about teamwork! Win together, lose together. Healthy competition to keep you focussed on your goal yet always there to help one another out when riding the rollercoaster.

I could go on and on, and if you too are well on your way down your sales career path, I am sure you will agree with most if not all of the above!

It’s in our DNA, like it or not, sales is part of us and makes us the individuals that we are.

Within the Sales Division here at TMG Group, we not only love recruitment but we have a true passion for Sales. We all have our own sales journeys,  how we got here and have learnt so much along the way – and still have so much to learn.

With this is mind, next week my team and I will be launching our ‘Tales of Sales’ blog series, sharing with you our thoughts and expertise for the industry and hopefully helping some of you along the way – like I said earlier – every day is a school day ??

Please make sure you are following Sophie Fleming and Lorren Daly who will also be publishing articles weekly!

And of course, if we can help you grow your sales teams or support you to find your next step in your sales career – get in touch – we would love to help!

Very true.....in fact I would go as far as saying......if you don't get a 'no'.......this is seen as a disappointment in the sales process.
