Talent which pie important Internal or External?
Talent...which pie is important.internal or external.
Many of the Organizations focus on hiring talent to fill the critical slots during the year, to fulfill AOP no's.
As part of closing the critical numbers, the task falls on Talent Acquisition team..it's really difficult to fill a critical slots within stipulated timelines
I'm sharing you my experience in hiring a technology person/ U&R for marketing/ IT Application/ Hybris Lead or to hire niche skills for embedded project for world's largest Telecom Technology provider
a) The time consumes in identifying talent from competition b) The compensation the market is offering to the niche skill candidate c) The past performance track record of the candidate in organization and in market once all these are evaluated..then internal talent triggers in our mind with a) the limit of the compensation of the position b) does hiring external will affect the parity c) Does internal talent helps to fill the open slots d) what are the alternative plans to fill the critical slots
Business raises alarm stating business is getting impacted without manpower, it's imperative that HR is expected to source a right talent to business. Most of the organizations failing on two areas - 1) Focussing on hiring external talent giving a way to loose internal talent
2) Not hiring external talent, replacing the slots with internal talent. There are few drawbacks with the above.
For 1st one -
1) It's risky in hiring external talent for all the positions ignoring internal talent as it disturbs motto, self esteem and trust. Organization might loose Hi Pots and niche skill experts in the Organization.
2) The external talent might not agree to come on the limits/ CTC band of the position. Making HR and business to invest high in hiring the talent.
For 2nd one -
a) The responsibility of business and HR is to review, strategise and getting to action mode on regular internals the project, teams and aspirations of the internal talent.
b) The internal talent grows vertically ( hope you all agree); where internal opportunities open up horizontally makes him to move to other business or other line of domain.
c) At times when business expands or new project arrives, the customer/ client expects to have team on board within close timelines; the TA team and RMG to sit together, strategize to meet up the demand and deploy the resources from the market
Conclusion - a Talent pie an internal or external to be groomed, to have a growth environment. The organization to have a bandwidth to hire external talent as buzzwords like Big Data, Distributed systems, Cloud based experts. The TA has to forecast the demand; to have a strategy in place, backup and also an agreement from business in hiring talent.
