Talent and tech advancement to drive automotive transformation

A wave of disruptive technologies and innovation is reimagining and transforming the automotive segment like never before. This is being fueled by digitalization of everything and four superpowers – ubiquitous compute, pervasive connectivity, cloud-to-edge infrastructure, and artificial intelligence.?

Vehicles are becoming smarter, connected and more efficient with electrification, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), and autonomous driving. I believe the auto sector is undergoing the same revolution that we witnessed in the mobile phone industry. From a simple wireless handset, the mobile phone has transformed itself into a digital companion that enables a host of computing-based conveniences and services from online transactions, entertainment to social interactions. Smartphones have made compact cameras and portable audio players obsolete.?

Similarly, vehicles have undergone significant shifts over the years, from transporting people in owned vehicles, followed by taxi services, to vehicle rental services and now to the gig economy’s e-hailing services with anytime access, affordability and scale. Tomorrow, it will enable perhaps offices, movie theatres and parked spaces – no longer just taking people from point A to point B.?

The next inflection in the automotive segment will be propelled by electrification and autonomy or autonomous driving as well as connectivity enabling V2X (vehicle-to-everything). Electrification will enable sustainable and inclusive mobility with improved efficiency in electric motor controls, power conversion, and battery management systems. In-vehicle compute advancements, ADAS and data analytics are transforming the driving experience. Cars are turning into computers on wheels with the advancement in silicon and compute and can enable many software services as well.?

?Semiconductors are the underlying technology powering digitalization of everything and its importance in the auto sector is only set to grow with the adoption of these next-generation vehicles. The semiconductor shortage and the pandemic have accentuated the drive for more innovation, increased semiconductor capacity, digitalization and democratization of the global supply chain. This has led to new ways of building and architecting automotive solutions and increasing the foundry capacity.

The demand for semiconductors is on the rise. Semiconductors in the auto industry will account for more than 20% of the total premium vehicle bill of materials by 2030 – representing a staggering 5X growth rate over the figure of 4% in 2019. As a result, it will drive the total addressable market (TAM) for automotive chips to nearly $115 billion.?

Leveraging Intel’s portfolio of IPs, software, silicon and platforms, combined with packaging and process with at-scale manufacturing, we are committed to driving this revolution along with our partners and customers. We are building the automotive solutions portfolio at Intel and our goal is to enable our customers and OEMs to fulfil their transformation aspiration.?

Talent and human capital remain at the core of catalyzing this transformation. Innovations in hardware, software and IPs combined with a customer-first mindset will unleash the power and potential of the automotive sector.?

Critical talent and competency requirements will be in the areas of automotive software validation and compliance architects, silicon architects, automotive functional safety architects, platform solutions architects and auto simulation model experts, etc. Our endeavor is to attract the best talent and experts to be part of this journey.

I am excited about the opportunities to contribute, collaborate and lead the transformation in this sector. We are looking for auto experts in architecture, hardware, software, algorithms, platform, connectivity and services. Talent is critical to us and we are building an amazing team at Intel.??

Thanks for sharing, most of the OEMS are in phase of changeing the car architecture using RADAR(short range, medium range and long range) to get the objects list, post process that object list to implement ADAS.
