Talent Retention – A possible solution!

Talent Retention – A possible solution!

I recently read an article on People Matters (www.peoplemattersglobal.com) shared by my friend, on CHROs struggling with #TalentRetention, excerpts below

QUOTE

According to a new Executive Networks survey of CHROs, 83% are struggling with talent retention… Top factors contributing to voluntary turnover include burnout (19%), lack of career and advancement opportunities (19%), work-life balance issues (18%), wanting more compensation or benefits (18%) and feeling underappreciated (8%).

Close to a third (28%) of CHROs also predict their budget for employee well-being programs to increase by 10 – 19% over the next 12 months, indicating that reducing stress, burnout and work life balance issues are KEY to stemming high turnover rates.

UN-QUOTE

Now if reducing stress, burnout and work life balance issues are KEY TO STEMMING HIGH TURNOVER RATES, I have something to share from my experiential level – a possible long term solution!

See whether it is burnout or work life balance issues or any other complication in professional or personal life for that matter, #STRESS is the underlying factor! It is stress that devoid us of clarity in our thoughts, as a result of which our decision making goes haywire!

To understand this further, we need to understand STRESS.

What is Stress? Lot of work to do, Limited time and Low Energy levels!

This is when we start accumulating stress day by day, year on year! Isn’t it?! And what happens as a result of increased stress levels…burnout, work life balance issues, and stress is something that then devoid us of ‘clarity in our thoughts’ and when this starts happening, the problem further complicates…!

So what’s the possible long term solution?

Going by the definition of stress above – Work and responsibilities increases day by day (nothing can be done to reduce that!), Time is the limited commodity for everyone on this planet (nothing can be done to increase that!), so the only thing left for us to work on, is our Energy Levels (something can be done here for sure!).

Hence, the ONLY thing that we have in our hand to get rid of this monster called STRESS is, our ENHANCED ENERGY LEVELS!

And when it comes to Energy Levels, our BREATH holds the secret :) By practicing regulated breathing patterns for few minutes daily, our MIND automatically starts going into 'deep rest / meditative states' and we experience Enhanced Energy Levels!! The ‘traffic jam of Thoughts’ is minimized with practice and we have ‘Clarity in Our Thoughts’ which in-turn helps us in finding focus & direction, better decision making, better coordination, feeling content…!

So coming from an experiential level, ONE THING that I would recommend for “employee well-being programs” is a ‘compulsory daily practice of Meditation during office hours’! This will change the game for sure :)

As I look at it and whether we realize this today or may be later, Meditation is not a luxury, it’s a dire need!

Well put Madan !!! We all need to learn to deal with stress while stay positive. Few things that I always tell, specially to millenials that knowledge on core concepts, consistency, discipline, and finally delivery are the key elements. We learn a lot through observation and not only essentially by doing things :) Therefore a balanced approach and effective time management with maturity of where to draw the line is what it takes. ??

Appreciate your articulation of thoughts, I remember in 2002 when I was with Ambuja Cement we have done so, by bringing 2 spiritual gurus and training employees on it and subsequently allocating space and time for Meditation. It really helps and reduces hierarchy barriers.

Well addressed, as all these days Stress has changed everything around us and need to see how we minimise it.
