?? Creating a talent acquisition strategy that supports a skills-based organisation

Organisations that have already started adapting a skills-based approach to organising their workforce are reporting increases in performance, talent retention, and employee engagement (Deloitte, 2022). Skills-based organisations deconstruct traditional roles and jobs and instead describe which skills are required to perform what type of work. The work is then organised?around skills, not traditional jobs. In this blog post we will go through a few steps that will help you create a talent acquisition strategy that supports the building of a skills-based organisation. ?

Attracting talent: crafting a?skills-based EVP?

In a skills-based organisation, your Employee Value Proposition (EVP) should clearly communicate your commitment to fostering a culture where skills are prioritised, developed, and recognised. Start by integrating these elements:

  1. Communicate the?steps your organisation has taken towards becoming a skills-based organisation, whether this is having a common way of validating skills, hiring practices for skills, internal skills marketplace, promotion practices based on skills etc.?
  2. Emphasise how your organisation supports?continuous learning?and the?development of individuals, and how your organisation is helping employees with building the skills each employee wants to build.?This attracts individuals who are keen on growth.?
  3. Communicate how your organisation supports the ability of employees to move?between responsibilities, tasks and projects?based on their skills.?

Sometimes it can be hard to get going with job searching. To make this a bit simpler for you I’ve created a week long challenge with 30 minute ? focused actions for each day that you can complete on your own. After these 7-days, you’ll at least feel you’ve got going with your search and are hopefully one step closer on your way to a new job.

Day 2: Update your resume

  • Task: Allocate 30 minutes to updating your resume. Focus on adding your most recent experience and tailoring it to highlight achievements relevant to the roles you seek. Ensure your resume format is clean and professional.

Day 3: Optimise your LinkedIn profile

Day 5: Network strategically

  • Task: Use 30 minutes to reach out to three contacts in your network. Inform them about your job search and express your interest in opportunities within their organisations or networks. Ask for advice or potential referrals.

Day 6: Practice interviewing

  • Task: Take 30 minutes to prepare for common interview questions. Write down your answers to at least five questions. Focus on structuring your responses using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). Try using ChatGPT to get feedback on your answers to the questions.

Day 7: Feedback and fine-tuning

  • Task: Set aside 30 minutes to get feedback from professionals, e.g. recruiters, on your resume, LinkedIn profile, and interview questions/answers. Then use that feedback to continue fine-tuning your job search actions.
