Talent Magicians: explained.
I get quite often cool compliments and also questions about the Talent Magician term that is in my squad, and my own job title. That's one the reasons why I wanted to write an article about it. You guys are just ordinary recruiters right?
Not completely true..
"In tarot reading, the Magician is the card of manifestation. He represents the development of one's first sense of conscious awareness. In this regard, he has become aware of his own, unique sense of self. The Magician Card encourages one to use their intellect to master the world around them."
Next to the tarot card meaning and the fact that Yu-Gi-Oh! is an awesome series and the Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl are one of the best cards in his deck, we chose this name to bring more fun and magic to universe of recruitment. Blue-Eyes-White Dragons of recruitment did not sound that smooth compared to: Talent Magician.
Yes, we are in-house recruiters, meaning: We are on the look-out for the greatest talent worldwide to join Sendcloud. We spend our days finding, recruiting and hiring the best people that can join us on our mission to revolutionise shipping in Europe and eventually.. the world!??
Also, it comes with your ordinary but not unimportant, day to day recruitment work like: Checking resumes, doing phone screenings (a lot of those), planning interviews, sending out offers and so on.
No, we are not the kind of recruiters that 'shove' resumes to hiring managers and check if we can find you a job at Sendcloud. We want the best of the best and good vibe bringing colleagues on our team! As a Magician, you can work close together with the hiring managers, leads and other team mates of every department. This is what brings the Magic to life.
With being in sync with the complete organization, we can use our talent magic, to see chances, transform them and also take risks from time to time. When a candidate is not a good fit for job X, but still is a good match for Sendcloud, we are always open to check out opportunities internally and if we can work the Talent Magic in another department.
Also, the downside of the work of al Recruiters, or Magicians, is rejecting candidates. Not every candidate matches at this point with our company. Still, when a candidate gets rejected, we want to let them go with a good feeling. This is also a magical power we own: Give a good candidate experience, no matter the outcome.
So to summarize, and check the differences between 'regular' Recruiters and Magicians:
Of course, not every corporate or in-house 'regular' recruiter is the same. We all have that special kinds of magic when it comes to our people skills and way of communicating that all makes us us good Magicians.
Most important and key take-away from this article, and what I hope everybody will get after reading it: is to spread your own magic and trust in your skills and knowledge. Work well together with your team with open and honest communication, also to other colleagues. Bring in the sunshine also on the more cloudy days. Work hard, so you can also play hard.
And to end it with a final inspirational quote:
