Talent Intelligence Collective Digest: January 2022

Talent Intelligence Collective Digest: January 2022

Welcome to the first Talent Intelligence Collective Digest in this LinkedIn Newsletter format. The TIC Digest aims to be your go to source for all matters talent intelligence and will publish monthly.

So in this inaugural newsletter I thought it a good opportunity to highlight what to expect from the TIC in 2022 but also highlight a few of the hot topics from the end of 2021.

What to expect.... Well 2022 will hopefully see the TIC continue to go from strength to strength.

  • We will continue publishing the Talent Intelligence Collective Podcast in conjunction with the awesome team at Stratigens and the team at Udder.
  • We will continue to run monthly virtual meetups for both Talent Intelligence Consulting and also Talent Intelligence Data Science.
  • We will be crowdwriting a chapter for the 2022 book on Talent Intelligence by Toby Culshaw, this will be Chapter 4 called "Building the case for Talent Intelligence"
  • We will run the annual Talent Intelligence Collective Benchmarking survey with lots of improvements on last years survey to continue to enable us to benchmark and grow as teams
  • We will look to develop a resource library of materials and templates for all things Talent Intelligence
  • We will stabilise communications and have this newsletter coming through each and every month (assuming the Collectors like it)

Hot Topics....

The main hot topic from the end of 2021 was the brilliant Talent Intelligence Awards 2021 by Stratigens and the Talent Intelligence Collective. A huge congratulations to all the winners:

  • BEST USE OF DATA SCIENCE IN TALENT INTELLIGENCE: SAP
  • BEST USE OF TALENT INTELLIGENCE TO INFORM BUSINESS STRATEGY: BP
  • BEST USE OF TALENT INTELLIGENCE TO IDENTIFY NEW SKILLS POOLS: arqiva
  • BEST USE OF TALENT INTELLIGENCE FOR HIRING & TALENT ACQUISITION: Thinknum
  • BEST USE OF TALENT INTELLIGENCE TO INFORM LOCATION DECISIONS: Walmart
  • BEST USE OF TALENT INTELLIGENCE TO INFORM WORKFORCE DIVERSITY: Verizon
  • TALENT INTELLIGENCE PRACTITIONER OF THE YEAR: Kristina Grigoryan
  • TALENT INTELLIGENCE LEADER OF THE YEAR: RANDY BAILEY
  • TALENT INTELLIGENCE TEAM OF THE YEAR: Philips

It really was an awesome awards series with entries from so many amazing organisations and teams including SAP, Philips, Verizon, Amazon, Walmart, Thinknum, AMS, New Street Consulting, Armstrong Craven, PayPal, Tricentis, arqiva, ZS and BP. It is brilliant to see how the field is developing and maturing.

Talking of maturing the results of the 2021 Talent Intelligence Collective Benchmarking survey were published. It is clear to see that the field is in growth, development and maturing. Some notable highlights:

  • The first is the variance. We are still a new function. We are still exploring our roles, remits, skill sets needed, organisational structure, technology and remuneration. There is no “average” or “normal” yet, rather a range with some very strong outliers. This is seen in nearly all areas of the survey from remuneration, current skill set, core team deliverables and future skills needed.
  • The second is evolution. We can see very strong evidence that there is a strong evolution of offering, skills development and of team growth. This is also reflected in the growth in the size of teams, remit and budget that is expected by the teams in the year 2022.
  • None of the respondents believe that their team size, remit or budget will shrink in the year 2022 with 49% expecting to see a growth in their team size, 39% believe their remit will grow substantially in the next year and 51% will see an increase in their team’s budget
  • There is a big focus on data skills development into 2022 with 80% wanting to improve Data visualization, 78% Predictive analytics, 75% Data analysis and 69% Strategic consulting
  • There is little consistency within base salary thus far in the market. More analysis is needed as a country / regional level but we are certainly seeing a strong “Y shaped” career path with individual contributors able to command salaries in line with management

So that's it. That is the first of the LinkedIn based Talent Intelligence Collective Digest's. Come over to the Talent Intelligence Collective Facebook Group or join Talent Intelligence Collective Whatsapp Group to let me know any thoughts and join in the conversations.

Thank you,

Toby
