- Forbes Google Cuts 12,000 Workers - 2023 Tech Layoffs Roundup: According to layoffs.fyi, there have already been a total of 40,474 tech jobs cut in January 2023 from 151 different companies. Other than November 2022, which saw 52,135 workers downsized, that’s by far the largest monthly figure we’ve seen since the beginning of Q3 2020. And this doesn’t include the 12,000 that Google has just announced.
- The HR tech market categories to watch this year Josh Bersin highlights Talent Intelligence as one of the key areas of focus for 2023: “Talent intelligence platforms. These are AI-powered data platforms that help companies with sourcing, internal talent matching, intelligent succession management and data-driven solutions for assessment, job design and skills analysis. These systems (including Eightfold, Gloat, Beamery, Phenom, SeekOut and iCIMS) all offer new, high-value offerings. Their ERP counterparts simply are not there when it comes to matching capabilities.” . s
- The war for talent has turned into a ‘war for skills’ “If you do reduce headcount, it’s important to “decouple skills from jobs” to make sure that even as unneeded roles are eliminated, employees with critical skills are retained and redeployed to different areas, according to Mercer. “?“Instead of the traditional talent model, an increasing number of companies are building “talent marketplaces” to mine pools of internal skills and allow talent to migrate fluidly within their organization, according to Mercer.”
- The outlook for 2023 is uncertain, but here’s what we know about the global labour market – Key points from the World Economic Forum in Davos by Allen Blue Co-Founder and Vice-President, Products, LinkedIn: 1) Data shows hiring is slowing down globally amidst economic uncertainty and the balance of power has tipped slightly back towards employers, but labour markets are still relatively tight compared to before the COVID-19 pandemic. 2) Sustainability, cyber security and sales roles are among the fastest-growing jobs and offer some of the strongest opportunities for job seekers. 3) Equipping the workforce of the future with universal access to better education, jobs and skills will ensure we are in a better position to weather economic headwinds through 2023 and beyond.
