Talent: Here Today, Gone Tomorrow?
Employee Retention

Talent: Here Today, Gone Tomorrow?

Prior to the coronavirus lockdown, I was visiting a Fortune 500 company that was struggling to fill jobs and retain talent—A challenge many of you may be familiar with. This company had a record number of job openings, and employee turnover was on the rise.

Growth plans were put on hold, as the organization didn’t have the workforce to extend their reach.

Their executive team was tired of working day and night, with no end in sight, to resolve this situation.

During a session that I was facilitating, an executive shared a story about the loss of a top executive on his team, who had just been poached. He said he never saw this coming.

Others sat by, as if this situation couldn’t possibly happen to them. That was until I pointed out how they could be next.

In their effort to help investors and customers learn more about their management team, someone in the company decided to include a link to each executive’s LinkedIn profile on the company website.

On paper, that might have sounded like a great idea. In reality, that decision cost the company dearly.

A headhunter discovered a candidate she was interested in pursuing, clicked the link, and began a conversation with the executive, which eventually resulted in a job offer. Several weeks later, that executive was gone.

I don’t want something similar to happen to you.

Organizations are more vulnerable to poaching, than ever before. Employees are working from home and are able to speak freely with anyone who calls. Many are also feeling unsettled about the future stability of their current employers.

Now's the time to double down on your employee retention efforts. It's also the ideal time to poach talent. What are you waiting for? Get started today.

"Their executive team was tired of working day and night, with no end in sight, to resolve this situation." And that's the problem. Their workaholic culture. No wonder their talent is being poached and that they have turnover problems. Workaholic cultures say we do not care about our talent, and no wonder they get poached. Even you blamed the "linking to a LinkedIn profile" which had nothing to do with the root cause.

"In their effort to help investors and customers learn more about their management team"...."help investors"...I really think many Investors know little (or maybe care little) about how companies "grow" their employees...that is unfortunate as many Investors have only one thing on their mind and they want that $ FAST... Tough balancing act to grow employees (and keep them) while other Companies take advantage of the growth given to those employees by original company...The People Growth Companies are well know and sometimes their employees are "plucked"....Really successful companies identify the "real growth" candidates and keep them challenged/compensated to keep the really good ones......and always a challenge for companies to find that balance.

Quick HRIS SaaS Query, Roberta, in event you or anyone knows a good answer. For the REVERSE ISSUE, that is, "finding good talent" in a Searchable Data Base of >1,500 1099 Independent Contractor Consultants, with "cloaked identities" by the platform company that matches them to Clients with a "Pain Point" Trigger Event Urgent Need.... CECON.com LLC, founded 1985, by early-out DuPont Co scientists and engineers, uses a custom "unicorn" program in Joomla. It would love to find a robust off-the-shelf SaaS HRIS solution. CECON also always welcomes registration via prospective new Consultants, and / or Searches for an Engineer, Scientist, Technical Expert for acute problem-solving.
